Title: Box Frags. 99% Sure Install Is Correct
Post by: petegas on January 25, 2004, 01:56:00 PM
I used wires to connect the quick-solder install points to the corresponding points on the xenium as I didn't want to solder it direct to the Mobo.  I have checked all points with a multimeter.  I used a wire from the d0 on the bottom of the Mobo to the Xenium and checked the connection between the Xenium d0 to the d0 on the TOP of the Mobo so I know d0 is connected.  I checked that voltage was getting to the chip when the box was on (the two quick solder points on the same side as the ground point on the xenium  both have 3.3 volts)

v1.0 box with filled in LPC holes which is why i didn't do a pinheader.

When powered on the box frags and the light is a constant red on the xenium - if I de-solder the ground (disabling the chip) the box boots fine to MS dash, so I know my box is OK

I've tried booting with the switch on the Xenium in both positions.

Ideas?  I'm quite frustrated -

I actually didn't use point 2 (ground) on the LPC - instead I just went from the xenium to a screw pad on the case for ground - could this be part of the problem?  I wouldn't think so - are you sure that long wires can cause problems?  I just used part of an old IDE cable, all my wires are maybe 10" long.

UPDATE - I took out my wires and did a quicksolder.  Turned it on and YAY!! booted up to xenium screen.  Turned it off.  Now however, I turn it on and there is no video - after a number of seconds the box reboots after the LED on the xenium flashes blue briefly - this cycle repeats - the power on the xbox flashes green (no red) -

Good call on not using the wires though -

EDIT - looks like this is correct behaviour, I just forgot to plug in the video cable, and since the chip had no BIOS flashed it just kept rebooting - Its working, yay!!!!
