Title: Xenium As A Replacement
Post by: exobyte on January 18, 2004, 06:43:00 PM
My X2.2 Pro is REALLY F*CKED UP.  For some reason, at one point (nothing strange happened to the box recently), it would turn on and off a few times, then blink red and green.  A reflash (I think) fixed it.  The same problem happened again a week later, but I have had no luck getting it to reflash.  (ideas are welcome, but I've checked almost everything).

So- I had a pretty bad Xecuter expierence and wonder if this would be a good replacement.  Try to not be biased in this and remember this.  Part of my hesitation is that this chip is new on the scene (although the devels aren't)

if your box runs without the chip, i see no reason for you to not get another chip. and the Xenium would be a good replacement.

I do need a new chip unless there's some sort of a waranty on my current one.  Considering my expierence with Xecuter, would Xenium be a better bet than an X3?

No one can say for sure yet, but all of the chips have had problems with reliability at one point or another.  I had very good luck with the Chameleon and the X2 series, but I heard that problems cropped up with both of these chips in more recent revisions.

The Xbit had some manufacturing issues as well, but they have supposedly been resolved.

No one can say for sure whether the X3 or the Xenium will be more reliable until they have both been out for several months.  As I said before, just order one from a reliable retailer, and if there are any problems you can always send it back.

I bought my x2 from system-mods.com, which wasn't part of the bad chip thing earlier and they seem to be pretty good from the forums.

From the reviews, I'm thinking about going through xbox-wired for the Xenium.  divineo.com seems to have been doing VERY poor work lately.

I almost forgot- thx for the advise!!

As one of the few who have actually used an Xenium.. If you need a chip now.. go for it. If not right now.. you might want to wait for the X3 and see what the review of the test samples will show.

So far.. I'm been abusing these Xeniums.. and loving them.

X3 and SmartXX offering should be equally interesting and exciting. Bottom line.. you can't lose IMO.

Buy Xenium now.. or waity and get X3 or SMARTXX later. Either way.. you got next gen goodness.

Cool- thx.  From what I've seen, X3 will keep the external switches.  I like the idea of not having 4 switches and a parrallel port.

I'm glad samples get distributed.

What about X-bit vs xenium?  I currently have an x-bit on preorder at modchipman but due to the delay of stock he said he would ship an xenium right away....im torn.  I dont really want to solder my box but i would if the xenium is WAY better than the x-bit.  Give me your opinions.  thanks.

You don't have to solder the Xenium in if you don't want to.  You can order it with the Chameleon solderless adapter or wait until the Xenium one is released, either one should work fine.

I would go with the Xenium.  I wouldn't say it's WAY better than the Xbit, but it is better.  Personally, I would go with the Xenium or if your going to wait anyway then wait for another one of the new generation of chips like the SmartXX or the X3.  (Although, the way things are looking lately I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the X3!)
