hdd upgrade is specific to the bios on your chip but since you say you have a spider chip on a 1.6 then you must be running evox m8 bios and they will allow you to upgrade your hdd. just find a slayers evox installer disc or auto installer deluxe. burn to disc and boot in your xbox with your new unformatted large hdd and format and setup your dash and apps via the install disc and reboot when finished.

Yes your assumption is correct. And by golly i dont think it can get any easier then that. Thanks for the help. I'll post results.
