Title: V 1.0, Duox And A Wire Install

OK, I'm about to mod a version 1.0 box and I'm going to just solder the wires to the LPC points and to the chip.

My stupid question of the day is, can I just use double sided tape to secure the chip to the side of the case? I'm bored and I'm trying the wire install because I really don't feel like clearing the holes on the mobo for the pinheader.

Plus I've never do it before and I like challenges  biggrin.gif

yes you can. make sure to pack it out so it is well away from shorting any pins out on to the shield.
The double sided Sticky Foam pads work well

Thanks Chancer. It sure "seems" to be a lot easier install instead of clearing the holes out. At least to me it looks that way.

Well, the wire install was not so bad EXCEPT. When I turn the box on via the eject button, the box starts/stops once then fires up and runs.

If I use the power button, everything is 100% with no start/stops. Is this a BT or Do problem? It's been a loong time since I modded a box but I'm thinking BT needs resoldered.

OK, Here's my problem. I can use an auto installer disk (Slayers or AID) and it goes through the install just fine.

Afterwards, If I use the eject button to boot (BT wire soldered to back of eject button), the box with start then stop immediately, then a second or two later will boot up.

If I use the power button, it boots without the stop/start thing. And I get the "Xectuer Rox My Box" at the bottom of the screen on both boots.

I used AID to install dashboards, but whichever button I use to start the box, the hacked dash loads. The M$ dash does not load at all.

What gives here? I've been out of the modding "loop" for awhile but I've never had a box act like this before. It's a v1.0 if that helps.

Any helpful hints would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds to me like either BT is connected to the wrong point... or you somehow managed to screw up your onboard TSOP... or.. you could have grounded d0 somewhere by accident. (Which would make it always boot off of lpc)

You're never going to believe this. I tore the box apart and dumbass me ran the Do wire through the screw hole near the lpc. Then, I put the damn screw in and shorted out the connection. DUHH..

Replaced the damaged wire and left the screw out and everything is good. I still can't believe I did that. rolleyes.gif

no and no, just solder a wire from each "hole" in the chip to the corresponding LPC hole.

Nope that's flux, its there to help the solder and has no (if any?) conductivity.

alright, i got everything soldered in and the chip is stuck to the side of my xbox. to test if it works do i leave the dvd drive and hard drive out and unplugged? thank you so much for helping me with this smile.gif

It'l boot up without a dvd/hdd, yes, but won't load a dashboard or anything. If it loads a hacked bios then you're good to go wink.gif

it worked! i put everything back together and plugged it in and the power wouldnt turn on. i took everything apart double checked all the connections and put it back together. it didnt work this time either, so i sat there ready to break down when i noticed the power chord wasnt even plugged in to the wall laugh.gif  thanks again for the help!
