Drilling is a ver bad idea. You need to first check where you drilled then link the traces top and bottom that go to that point (use 30awg kynar)

I don't have any answers for you regarding the drilled hole, and how it might affect anything, as I don't have anything in front of me to look at (possibly there is a trace in another layer of the board which has been affected?)  However, you notice that really big hole just north of where you drilled?  That's where i normally route wires from the bottom to the top.  I just leave that screw out, and route the wires through that hole, and it works perfectly.  (just a tip for next time)

Check for a break in either of the traces to the right of where you drilled. The ones visible in the bottom picture.

Yes, they are ugly but only because I have redone them 10 times <G>. I tested them (continuity to other parts of the MB) and they are all fine. Bought the XBox for only $40 from a pawnshop (DVD was dirty - simple clean and it worked fine) but have spent 20 hours working on the damn thing. Not sure when to give up at this point.

My assumption when I drilled the MB was that all the traces coming from the pin header location were the ends of some trace (screwing with them wouldn't do anything since they were open already). I'll take a look and see if I can check for a break in those traces to the right of my wire in the bottom picture somehow. I have one of those big lighted magnifying glasses on a movable stand (not sure what you call it) to help with the inspection.

Well, I guess it doesn't matter because I killed two traces tonight trying to find the problem. It will go in the parts bin <G>...

why did you drill your mobo? You know youre supposed to use a 30-40 watt iron and a solder sucker right? Huh silly. You should probably do softmod in future. NOt being an a-hole but just offering advice. I know you bought it for $40 bucks but a xbox is a wonderful piece of equipment. IMHO. Oh well lesson learned hardway.

well i got the same problem but we didn't drill.. after installing the box turns on then turns off.. no error.
we installed total of 8 boxes with this chip..  the two that are 1.0 both frag now.. any suggestions.
