Title: Please Help When You Get The Chance!
Post by: LuridSpectre on September 15, 2006, 10:08:00 PM
I've got a 1.6 xbox here that I just installed a DuoX2 Cromwell/Flashbios edition in.  I checked all my soldering work with a magnifying glass and it's all perfect.

When I boot up with the eject button, it goes to the Microsoft dashboard like it should.  No problems here.

When I boot up with the power button, it goes to (and I have bank 0 selected right now) the Cromwell bios, as it should.

When I boot up with the power button with bank 1 selected, it shows a black screen, which, from what I hear, is not uncommon since FlashBIOS seems to have this weird temperment with 1.6s.  (I tried the power button 35 times in a row.  I counted.  No luck.)

I can't get any CD's or DVD's to boot from the Cromwell bios because my drive is a Samsung SDG-605F, and I haven't put new firmware on it.  (And I would really like if there was a way to do this without going that route.)

What I'm wondering is, how can I flash the chip with the Evox M8 bios given the restrictions I've noted above?  Is it even possible?

I suppose I'll keep trying bank 1 to see if I can get it to come up in order to do a network flash, as this seems to be my only option, but any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

After some more searching, I've discovered that you need to use a Eurasia Flash Disc to flash the bios in Cromwell as a standard bios disc won't work.

I'll try this and report the results.

Well, it appears that I'm going to need a CD-RW (if even that will work).

I'm done with it for tonight.  Tomorrow I'll burn one and see what I can do.

DVD-R is your best bet, though cd-rw should work as well.

And yes, to flash with cromwell you'll need two discs; A eurasia flash disc and a bios disc.

Well, I managed to find 2 CD-RWs.

It took a few tries, but the bios flashed fine and everything is working just dandy.

Now I just have to use Slayers' CD and ftp into it so I can upload my copy of the MS dash and fix the one that's on there.  (It was a failed softmod by my cousin, he ended up corrupting his dash and fragging it.)

Thanks for the help.

I've been trying to flash my duox2 cromwell/flash bios edition for last few days. I also have a v1.6. Did you solder the 4th pin to the mother board? I know the tutorial says that you should remove it but I didn't do that.  I thought that since its a version 1.6 then it didn't need to be removed. I thought only reason for being removed was because previous versions of xbox didn't have a physical hole for the 4th pin. I didn't see any traces running from that point(on xbox side and on female side to the chip). I know you have to remove 3,4,5 pins on the female side, which I did.

I'm wondering if maybe I actually needed to remove pin 4 from the male side.

so how did you get bank 0 to show cromwell splash screen?  I can't do anything with bank 0 or 1. All I get when I turn on the xbox with power button is a no picture and flashing of the power button ring red/green. I also can get regular MS dashboard with powering on with eject. But that's just disabling the modchip.

I know you got your chip working.  did you flash bank 0 with Eurasia flash disc first or directly flashed bank 1 with the boot disc using M8 executer bios?

Its ok to leave that extra pin.... but you likely failed to fully rebuild the lpc connections.  You can check your lpc voltages from the chart here---> http://www.xbox-scen...es/lpc-diag.php , or check by resistance from the images at Chancers site...(link in his sig)
