Title: Newbie Question: Locking Hdd For Xbl Use
Post by: scottchicken on May 21, 2006, 06:18:00 PM
Hi,

I have recently got a new modded box, already had a softmodded box with 120GB drive, never played on XBL.

The new one I just got has the original hard disk, with a DuoX2 (pinheader).  Power button boots XBMC, eject button boots MS Dash.

Now my question is about playing on Xbox Live, using my original games of course.    I don't know anything about the disk locking business.    Do I have to do anything before connecting to XBL?   Like load an app to lock the HD with the chip on, then boot with chip off to play?   Then unlock it when finished?

Feel free to point me to a tut or article.

Thanks

If it boots the MS bios with the eject button then the drive is already locked.
all you have to do is boot from the eject button and use your original discs for XBL

Thank you!

From what I've read, the locking only refers to locking a particular hard drive to a particular xbox correct?  I will still able to install X-DSL and modify the xboxmediacenter.xml files etc?    I noticed on this box the various apps were all on F: with E: just being a clean partition with UDATA and TDATA etc.   (My other softmodded box has apps and emus on E:, F: just for storage, and I can edit and modify no problems).

Cheers.

Yes you can still modify all the files no problem.
The drive is indeed locked to your Xbox but it is very easy to unlock it and fit in another chipped xbox if ever needed.
