When I look @ my xbox mobo, the LPC pinouts where the modchip pinheader is supposed to go is blocked. Every single little hole is soldered. This confuses me because my buddies xbox has LPC pinouts that aren't soldered closed. I think my xbox is either v1.4 or v1.5, manufacture date: 2005-01-13 (i don't have a multimeter so I can't find out if it's 1.4 or 1.5.
If anyone can help me AKA tell me wtf to do with my clogged pinouts, it'd be great. Also, if I take an 80GB HD and put in the DuoX2 -Crom. Edition, will I be able to FTP to it right off of bootup and install a dashboard? thanks again!

Yeah you have one of those new funky 1.4/1.5 sytems that came out. You have a couple of options, you can remove the solder from the holes using a desoldering braid or desoldering vacuum (radioshack has them both) and then install using the pin header method.
The other alternative is using a wire install method, see picture hre to get an idea: http://www.duomodchi...l/duox/wire.jpg
Or the last option (maybe not the smartest) is quick solder:

damn. I've never desoldered. That wire attachment job looks really fragile, and that direct connect looks really dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.. oh well, I guess i'll try my luck @ desoldering.. thanks! btw, do you know about how much is desolder braid @ radioshack?

$3-$4 for like 5 feet..The wire install is actually the easiest really..Just precut Nine 2-3 inch wires and strip both sides. Add some solder to the chip points and also a little more solder to the LPC holes. From there just solder the wires to there appropriate places.

hey, thanks for the help! I got the desolder braid and I'll try my luck at removing the solder from the holes ASAP. I had another question though..
if I take an 40GB HD and put in the DuoX2 -Crom. Edition, will I be able to FTP to it right off of bootup and install a dashboard?
or do I need to setup the HD with SlaYerS in there first?
-
You need to setup the HD with slayers on another auto installer first. Think about it, without a "boot disk" in the DVD drive, what program would you be ftping to on a blank HD?
-
If you have a Blue Duo you do not have the Cromwell edition. the Cromwell one is white.

Imho desoldering braid is really easy to use. Took me like 10-15 minutes on my 1.0. Of course I practiced first on this old PC motherboard I was going to trash.
