Do you have a 1.6 by any chance?  If you do, you need to switch banks and flash the bios using the cromwell bios (bank 0).  If you don't have a 1.6, then you need to check your soldering.

Remember as well that you must use the standard av cables with a chip that contains flashbios.

If you use anything other than the standard AV cables with flashbios you will not get  the display. (No support for the advanced AV pack, S Video etc) Also 3rd party controllers don't work with flashbios either.
Your Aladdin XT chips will have M8 on them not flashbios.
Your problems may be the CPLD code in the XT chips. It was common at one point.
