Title: Duox2 Reboots Once On 1.6
Post by: Ffishphone on November 26, 2005, 01:45:00 AM
Alright, so a big update. I removed the LPC rebuild board (rather painstakingly), reflowed/applied solder to the male pinheader, and rebuilt the LPC using wires. The Xbox now turns on and displays no video, and presumeably does not boot either. The light on the DuoX2 is on and flashing, and the system does not reboot as it did before. I've checked and double checked my connections, and everything looks fine and is making contact (checked w/ multimeter), so at this point I don't have a clue. The Xbox does still boot from the onboard TSOP when using the eject button, so I don't think I've got fryed traces or anything.

This happened when there was a bridge on the chip itself (I added too much solder to the header and there was a bridge inside the header under the chip's solder pads) or when the traces of the chip were damaged. You should check the chip itself then, but be careful as usually the solder pads used to get damaged when the header is removed from the chip. Check HackDaBox's Duo2 troubleshooter at: http://forums.xbox-s... troubleshooter

If its a white Duo make sure of 2 things.
1> You are using the standard video cables (Flashbios does not work with any other higher quality cables S-video and the like)
2> Flash bios can give blank screen for many reboots with this chip on a 1.6 so try bank 0 the Cromwell bank.

Alright, grounding D0 made no difference whatsoever, and I also tried disconnecting D0 from the chip itself-no changes. It still just gave me a black screen with no video and no boot. However, I was still able to boot from the eject button. Any thoughts?

Alright, figured out I had soldered to a point very close to D0, but no D0. Resoldered to the correct point and it does boot, but now it boots whenever the xbox is plugged in. Is this a result of soldering to the wrong point?

Just had similar problem....

I had a 1.6 xbox that was fragging when booting from the chip but with the chip off would boot fine. I figured faulty chip/bios so I replaced it, it was still fragging. Ended up removing the lpc pins and existing rebuild board (I agree... a painstaking task) and replacing the lot...

After this I started to get a solid green light with no video when booting from the new chip... after reading these posts (thanks Ffishphone..) I checked out my DO point connectivity to the rebuild board and I also cleaned up the point just to the right of it too...

The xbox now works chip on or off.........how long ??   who knows.....what a drama !!!    blink.gif
