Title: Duo X2 Corrupted
Post by: Chancer on July 04, 2005, 09:20:00 AM
Providing these are not clones then a problem Flashing can be caused by poor connections to the LPC points. Did you get the chips from a reliable source? Do you have pictures of the chips?
The flash is not write protected as it erases.
As an aside I had problems with flashing the X25032 bios but it seemed to be only me but in evox the flash corrupted and locked half way.

I think remotex flashes these better than evox, in fact it's proven.

Maybe you are right it seems all evox do report as remotex but I thought they released a debugger or something different.

Also kinda of a mute point with recovery style apps like xflash and Sunday flash. No more bad flashes.

Grab Gentoox Loader.xbe and rename it to default.xbe and add a dummy file , burn it to a cdrw or dvd-r.

Now you have the closest thing to Flashbios but on CD. Just through the cd in the drive boot it up and then insert your BIOS cd and flash.

Note the bios must be called image.bin and not BIOS.BIN

No bad flashes with this setup and it supports heaps of flashroms !!!
Better than Eurasia as it doesn't need editing for spiders or Aladdin XT !
A lot easier to use than raincoat for noobs !

Obviously the closest thing to flashbios is the flashbios xbe's. Why would you not use those?

flashing w/ evox does work well, but it also has it's downsides. Even if you've never experienced it, some chips repeatedly fail while flashing, sometimes halfway through the erase, sometimes during the flash write, sometimes not at all. For a user who has only one bios bank on a chip, and no other chips (or friends with chips) to do a hotswap with... evox is a risk not worth taking. OTher flash tools give you the option to retry the flash if it did not complete sucessfully, a feature which can be a lifesaver for just such a person.

They say there are CPU contentions during flashing with the Xbox kernel not present under the Linux kernel. Evox is fairly safe but if you take that flash routine and add the ability to flash again if the flash fails to verify it's better. I'm pretty sure that's how Sunday flash for 49lf020a got downloaded over 50k times.

Flashbios 3 is extremely effective aswell. If I had to flash or die I'd go with Sunday flash still. The source to all this is free and pretty easy to manage you can easily leave flashing via evox in the dust.
