Title: Duox2 Led
Post by: GQone on March 12, 2005, 08:35:00 PM
Hello all, I have a crystal xbox and am looking to install an Duox2.

I'm just curious as to whether the chip has any LEDs Internally (on the modchip circuit board) or externally.

I'm planning on changing the power/eject to blue and a blue led ring and would jsut like all the led colors to match.

DO YOUR GOOD DEED FOR THE DAY AND HELP A NOOB OUT.

Thanks.

GQone:

All of the DuoX 2 chips have a red LED on the chip that flashes when it is on.

ponyboy:

do you make any of your own threads, or just try to hijack somebody elses?
This isn't even a problem with the chip in this thread, just a cosmetic question.

Now for all you expert modders out there:  Is there a way to disable this light?  (Ie.  Not solder certain points of the chip to the board?)

You can unsolder the LED from the board. If you use a bit of braid it will come straight off. It can also be replaced with a different coloured SMD LED if you are fairly good with a soldering iron

I finally got these ones from mouser Everlight 1206 Super Blue, i just matched them up by size & shape and ordered them up.  I would also recommend some nice fine tipped tweezers for handling the tiny little led's, use a Pro's Kit 1PK-104T but something similar should do fine.  And just as Chancer said with a little braid it comes strait off.  This is my first time doing surface mount and I didn't bother to read any tuts either, i just tinned one pad then got the led in the tweezers and held it to the tinned pad and applied the iron and got it to sit flush with the board, and soldered the opposite side (don't know if that's how it's done but it worked)... and bam no more red blinking (looks like somethings wrong) light emminating from the box.

...now i just need to get a camera and some pics
