To tell if you have the new type Blue ones check if the chip is packed with a bank switch protector (a piece of plastic to stop damage to the switch in transit)

stick with the blue ones. cheap, preflashed, easy to reflash if necessary with evox, and damn near bulletproof.
i can sell u a preflashed cromwell version(white) for 17$shipped in the US. It comes with female pinheader soldered on. Or i can give you one that doesnt have a female pinheader installed and u can solder it on your self. Comes with male pinheader too
Thank you for the offer, but I think I will go with the blue one.

IF the chip is being sold pre-flashed with something - then the color of it really doesn't matter.
I think he may be thinking that the one offered by xboxmodder4life still has Cromwell on it.
This bit only applies to 1.6 owners
If it has been re-flashed then obviously its not a problem. If it has flashbios 3.03 on it and the chip was going in a 1.6 then it does matter. Flashing one of these if you have no other way than to use the 3.03 is a pain in the butt. It can take up to 30 reboots to get the flash screen to come up.
Trying these in an earlier box is fine so in this instance either would do.

This is true and most people don't keep trying , they reburn the image (wrong this time) and change filenames and burning options etc
But if you keep retrying it will flash in the end !
Very frustrating !

I have always shopped at www.divineo.cn
I recently installed a white chip, and it was a pain in the ass. That is partly my fault though.
I couldn't find any information on flashing the chip. I was trying to flash the 1.2-1.5 bank so I could keep the other bank free. I found lots of information on the 3.0.3 flashbios bank, but very little about flashing the Cromwell bank. I could easily install and flash one of these chips now.
Preference: Blue Chips. They come preflashed and ready to go. All you have to do is put a dash on the c: drive. If you are planning on installing your dash somewhere else, say the f: drive, then I would get the white chip. You are going to have to reflash the chip anyway, why not do it during the install.
