Anyway, my buddy installed an x-chip in his 1.3 and for some reason the damn thing either frags or hangs halfway through the dash if anyone walks too hard.
He's reseated it about 12-13 times with no luck. I've got the thing on my desk right now open and it looks like I can solder the d0 pretty easy, what about the rest of the chip?
Any tuts?
-
well you could try and solder the D0 wire into the board.
but i'm not sure would this be recommended
also, is it that wire that pops out? or is it the pogo adapter?

Shit, that didn't work.
Now it's fragging.
-
Christ, I can't unsolder the adapter! GRRRR....
Anyone know of a tutorial to do the X-chip without the adapter? I've got leftover pogo harnesses from my X3's

You can read my master install guide. It shows different methods to install the X-chip.

Just read the section that applies to your Xbox model.

Just a little advise. It's really not suggested to solder the solder-less adapter. Either use the solder-less adapter or solder via the pin header method.
The pin header install method is a bit more secure than the solder-less method. If the Xbox gets moved alot I would choose the pin header install over the solder-less install method.

Yeah, I didn't have much choice as he didn't have his pin header, it was back in his dorm about 600 miles away.
So I soldered the damn thing, fragged, unsoldered, fragged. Not sure whats up. The damn thing frags even with no chip so I'm guessing I either damaged the mobo or there's something I'm missing. I need to find some points to make sure my lpc connections are good.
Just to be sure though, I'm gonna buy a new mobo. I'm willing to bet cash money his old one is fucked.
-
If the Xbox is fragging with no chip installed then something is wrong with the motherboard.
Check are your connections and verify that you did not bridge any points on the motherboard while you were soldering.
It's most likely a bridge or a damaged traceline.

Yup, somehow I managed to move one trace, hehe.. just had to lay it back down and drop some solder on it and we're good.
I also hotglued the wires in place. This thing is gonna be fuckin bulletproof!
Thanks for the help. I might buy a couple of these chips for my own boxen if it continues to function.

Well shit. I got it all working, and since I gave my buddy (who's box I was fixing) my box, I'm stranded. So I slap my hdd in his box and now I get error 16. I have no f'ing clue why I locked my hdd.
Anyone know some X-chip tricks to get in and fix the clock?
