Title: Another Guy That Just Bought The Xchip
Post by: FordTang on September 22, 2004, 09:50:00 AM
Yeah, I just got the chip recently too.  And at first, I was like you.  It's confusing because there's no straight answer.

Okay, as for instructions to install, you can find them at the easybuy2000.com website and here at Xbox-scene (in the tutorial section).  Here is the link to the easybuy2000 one, as it's more useful:
http://www.easybuy20...ox/x-chip.shtml

At the bottom of the page I linked, you'll find instructions and the software to install the bios.  You'll want to download both.  You'll definitely need the software as that's the only way to update your bios.

So what you want to do is follow the instructions on the solderless adapter install, plug the chip in and power your xbox.  Hopefully it'll work in the first shot, if not, keep trying.  The solderless adapter can be real picky, and the d0 wire is tough.

Anyway, once the cromwell bios screen shows up (that's the default bios inside the x-chip when it gets to you), then you know the mod chip is doing good.

You can now turn off your xbox and take your chip off.  Once that's done, use the usb adapter that's supplied with the x-chip and connect a usb cable to it and plug it into the computer.  You'll find the drivers inside the directory of where you installed the x-control software (which you'll get from the easybuy2000 website).  You can check out your chip if you run the X-control software.  You'll find the instructions on how to use it in the X-control directory (which I think is named X-chip by default).

Okay, after that's all set, you'll need to get a new bios.  You can find that in the usual places.  You're looking for the X-chip 1.1 bios.  You can also get the EvoX m8 bios also, but there's almost no point to.

Once that's downloaded, you use the X-control software to load up the bin of the X-chip 1.1 bios and then write it to the chip.  It should take about 2 minutes or so to complete.  Once it's done, unplug the chip from the computer and connect it to your xbox.  Let it boot up, and you should see a new boot screen and you can press start to go into settings.

Once that's in, I suggest that you get the avalaunch dashboard since it's easy and nice.  You can find an installer for it from http://www.x-disk.com  You're looking for the Avaxdisk_1.5_net.  I believe if you register on their forums there are instructions on how to acquire it.  Also, there are instructions on how to use it.  Which is pretty simple.

And with avalaunch loaded, you'll be all set.

I think I got everything that you needed to do.  Oh also, you'll probably want to get Qwix also, which is made by the avalaunch guys.  It's a great utility.  You can find it at http://www.avalaunch.com

Oh, you might as well get all the software now since you're waiting for the chip.  Some of them are large and so you don't want to wait while you have your chip already.  Anyway, good luck.  People on here are always willing to help.
