hey.. id try putting the evox m8, that might get it to work.
or try using the cromwell bios to c if that will work.

I've successfully modded my HALO Edition XBox with the X-Chip.  Mine has a mfr. date of 2/7/04 and has a Samsung DVD.  I used the solderless install and have had no problems.

1st I went to xbins and downloaded the EvoX X-Chip BIOS v1.0
2cnd I flashed it to my X-Chip using X-Control
3rd I did the solderless install
4th I burned my ISO of Slayer's 2.5 to a CD/RW using NERO 6.0 and installed

It wasn't until I could run unsigned code that I was able to run a utility that reported my motherboard was a 1.4  I already knew it wasn't a 1.0 or 1.6 since i didn't have to solder/unsolder

By the way, Slayer just released 2.6, but that probably won't change your situation.
