Title: Xchip Solderless Install Problems!
Post by: schussey on August 28, 2004, 06:33:00 PM
ok well I just read a few threads, and found out that the silver stuff in the holes is solder. But I am still confused as to what to do after this with the solderless applicator.

Do I just attach the solderless applicator to the bolt, and have it fit snug?

Help!

You need to desolder the those holes.

could I not just allow the applicator to sit on top?

No need to desolder, as stated in guide if you have a 1.0 or 1.1 xbox you will need the rivits since holes, since you have solder no need for rivits and NO NEED to DESOLDER.

Just resume the install guide after it says install rivits and install.

so I do not need to connect anything with additional wire? There were 2 install guides on eastbuy2000.com, but thought the the install guide for the solder-less applicator skipped steps or something.

I just bought a usb port today, and was going to flash EvoX onto it. I was not aware that it already had bios on it.

I installed the solderless applicator today, so all I now have to do is pop the chip on top? I thought that I first had to flash the chip with different bios, and connect some stuff with 30gauge wire.....maybe not.

Nope all u need to do is pop it on and it should go.
it comes witha legal bios called cromwell.
if u want to put another one on u can.. thats tottaly up to you and where u get it from.
and like i said b4 id leave the factory bios on it to c if the xchip is working 100% then u can do whatever u want.
what youll c if it was an succsefull install youll c a lil red led. that doesnt mean its working it means it getting 5v and ground.. also make sure the bluewire/programmer is facing the INSIDE of the xbox.

special thanks to pine16 and twisted.penguin for all the help!

ok so now more questions: when I start the xbox, the cromwell menu comes up. What do I do now? I have interest in backing up games, so does this mean that I have to install a different bios such as EvoX?

any additional help is appreciated!

if i install the xcuiter, can i still run evoX?

and also, I am trying to flash the bios via the usb port. When I plug in the usb, nothing happens on my computer, no software attempts to become installed as it says in the guide. Any ideas as to why?

i have windows XP, and when I plug in the USB to both the xbox and pc, it makes a different "ding" sound then when it properly connects.

it connected properly the first time, and the software install came up. But the usb came unplugged by accident. Now I can't get the software install to come back up

i ended up just using another computer, lol. But I have the evoX bios on, and it works!

When I start it, I get the typical xbox flash screen, with the evoX symbol next to it. (telling you to hold start for settings)

i still need a dashboard, and what other stuff do i need?

that is exactly what i want.

first things first, how do I get my xbox to go straight to the evox menu on startup? As of right now, it goes to the typical xbox screen, when there is no disc in the tray. You know, settings, music, etc.

You need to install the Evox Dashboard.

If you already did, make sure that the dashboard XBE file is renamed to evoxdash.xbe (which is what the bios looks for)

to clarify, when i start my xbox, the usuall ms splash screen comes up, the only difference being that there is an evoX symbol on the same page. At the bottom it says "push start to go to settings."

If I do not push start, it will go straight to the xbox music, memory, etc.

Also, how do I get the dashboard? Do I burn it on a disc? or could I load it via the usb port on my xchip.
