Title: Crapped Out Chip?
Post by: TekNinja on December 11, 2003, 05:19:00 PM
*sigh*

...bump.

I've been working at just getting the chip in for 2 days now.  Can ANYONE steer me in the right direction?  I don't know what it could be...the fact that I get a smidgen of light tells me that it's in the main pins...but I don't know how to fix that, short of the alcohol cleaning I already gave it.

It is likely pin 2 not making a connection.  The solderless adapter should be flush with the motherboard.

Flush...you mean right up against it?

If so, it's as tight as it can be

Yes, now...are you using the supplied rivets to fill the holes?

Yep, the 9 are in where they're supposed to go to match up with the pins.

PS- Thanks for walking me through this, I really appreciate it...I'm getting quite frustrated with the blasted thing

It sounds like the adapter is not lined up.  You almost want the adapter to snap into place onto the holes.  I usually line it up first, press the adapter down, and screw in the screw (sometimes requires a third hand) then move the D0 over with needlenose pliers.

Alright, I'll give it some more heavy-duty fiddling.  Again, thanks much for the help =^)

Weirdly enough I have found the rivets a real non-starter. They are so small and fiddly and dont look as if they'd make nearly enough of a good contact for longterm secure use of the chip. I always (carefully) fill the holes of the LPC with solder first. Not had a problem since.

Hope this helps.

MY god man, if you're going to the trouble of filling the holes with solder why on earth are you bothering with the pogo adapter??????? uhh.gif

Having just re-read what I just posted, my instructions err kinda makes the solderless adapter a bit of a soldered adaptor... sorry if I have confused anyone.

I get my coat!

Cheers
