Title: Chameleon Can't Be Read
Post by: JonDante on November 04, 2003, 02:31:00 PM
IF your Xbox boots as if the chip is not there when it really is...then FOR SURE...your adapter is NOT making the proper connection to the LPC points.  Check the chip position and adapter.  Make sure it is flush with the mobo.

After that...if you get errors, we can help further.

I went and took the adapter out and cleaned everything again, it is completely flush with the modo. The light still won't come on when i start the xbox.

I know that is probably wasn't a good thing to do, but i gentlly pulled the chip off the adapter when the xbox was still on, and when it was at the very tip of the prungs, the light came on for a split second.

Is there anyway to possibly clean the chip itself, or whatelse should i do?

I used rivets, i don't know the xbox version, how do i find out (it makes proper contact, I tried it several times, cromwell resulted in a boot with cromwell boot screen, EvoX resulted in original MS boot screen)

Red your problem is DIFFERENT than Daga's.  I was addressing Daga.  Yours problem is most likely a bad flash or bad BIOS.  My first time took over 10 tries and a few hours.  My last Xbox mod including dash install took under 15 minutes.  Moral of the story...don't give up...thousands have worked...your situation is not unique...it is a matter of getting it to work.  I recently read somewhere that someone modifed the M7 using XTools into a 512k BIOS and it fixed his problem which WAS just like yours.  Do a search.  It was only two days ago.

Jd, so wha should I do for my situation, should i try flashing a different bios on the chip with the programmer or what.

I'm open to any suggestions, i have been tryin everything repeatedly, but now go.

Red...depending on what version of Evox you used...it sounds like yours is working fine.  OF COURSE you are going to see the MS screen, cause Evox M7 doesn't have a different screen unless it is hacked.  Anyway...try loading a dashboard disk or Slayer's now...gee...you are up and running and have not followed directions.  You should have used a colored BIOS...BUT DON'T CHANGE A THING...try booting with a Evox dash disk FIRST!!!!

Dago...first, switch dip 4 to ON to make sure that your chip is installed correctly...if the Cromwell screen comes up all is great.  Please verify that this is the case, then write that back here.

You overwrote banks 2 & 3?  Cromwell is available anywhere...even this site.  So that should not be a problem.  Get Cromwell on all banks and let's make sure you mod is working ok.

In fact I recommend EVERYONE install before programming your chip.  Otherwise there is LITTLE way to know if your mod was ok.

ok sorry I took so long, but i have the chip working after I installed all the banks with cromwell. The chip doesn't light up when its in the xbox but it still works.

so then i flashed the EvoxM7 onto bank 1 and set the chip to start in bank 1 but it would just boot the original screen from xbox. what should i do about this situation? the programmer is working fine.

With Evox M7 it is supposed to boot the original screen (which is why I recommend a different colored BIOS).  Now you need to insert a CD-RW with your dashboard on it.  And I do hope you mean bank 0.

I'm creating the cd with the dashboard now, but what do u mean bank 0. I flashed the Evoxm7 on bank 1, should i have the chip set to start in bank 0, or should i re-flash cromwell into bank 1 and evox m7 into bank 0?

Yea...bank 0 is the boot bank.  HOWEVER, if this works as you have it set...go for it.  Or you can double check by turning dip 4 to ON. (This will boot bank 1.)

ok I went back and double checked,

bank 0 = cromwell it boots fine into the cromwell screen

bank 1 = evoxm7 it boots into the regular xbox boot screen

is this fine, everything seems to be ok.....

wink.gif ..

Okay here is the thing ..

Dagodevo you most likely had your chip workign 100% from the first attempt .. I think what throws most people of is the Blue LED .. I will defintely not make that mistake again !!! Next chip I will have two LEDs one to indicate power and the other to indicate error/ status .. !!!

JD, for your info the cromwell file used on the chameleon .. is specific to the chameleon .. it is modified by us to work with the chameleon .. funny enough I have now noticed we have not actualy posted the bin file .. the file you linked to was the sources I will get our webby to sort hat out wink.gif

Dagodevo .. good luck .. so far you doing well .. wink.gif

Regards

Xodus

Everything is fine. The flash was successful, and the dashboard is running great.

Once I realized that the Evox M7 was on the chip, everything was a piece of cake.

Thanks for everything!!!!

Thx Xodus.  This is good to know.  I will keep checking to see when the new link to the BIOS is up.
