oh I forgot one thing, when the green MS splash screen appears, the "executer" logo does not appear across the bottom.

Thanks,

check your ide (dvd-drive, hdd) connection. without the drives the bios will hang or will display errors.

You also may want to double check that your Chameleon is still in place.  The quickest, easiest way to tell, is to switch to bank 1 (dips 1-3 off, dip4 on) and see if it boots to the Cromwell screen.

If that works, and you have checked your cables, you may want to try to reflash your BIOS (using a different color 4977 BIOS) because you never know if you have a BIOS error due to a bad burn or bad download of the BIOS.

Instead of loading the BIOS with a disk,  I've been using the programmer that came with my Matrix chip to program the chameleon. It seems to loading the BIOS fine.  The only issue I've seen is that BIOS name is not displayed whenever I ask the programmer to "Read" the chip.  So in other words the names showing up are: Bank 0 -NONE, Bank 1-Linux Cromell, Bank 2-Linux Cromwell, etc...

I have loaded the linux BIOS back onto Bank 0 before, and the linux screen appeared on the TV when booting from that bank so I  know my programmer works.

I just cant get the system to boot up with the non linux BIOS.

I've also swapped the cables, that didnt fix the problem.

Getting frustrated.

Any ideas?

Well I would attempt to do it with a disk instead of the programmer.  While the programmer should work, you never know.  I have burned a number of BIOS's with the CDRW method, and have not had any problems.

well I swapped the HD with one I had on my PC, now I'm getting a "error 16" code.....so I dont know if thats good or bad, at least its not giving me an error 6 anymore.  Still cant get it to boot from the DVD though.

You didn't happen to damage your yellow DVD-Drive wire, did you?

Try downloading a clean 4977 BIOS.  I have seen so many posts from people not getting the BIOS loaded correctly, and several times it was merely due to someone having hacked the versin they had, or they got a bad download.  Go back to the usual places, and get a 4977 (get a color other than green if you really wanna be sure...you can always reflash back to green if it works).

smile.gif guess I am still a sub par search user. smile.gif

I will list the facts I am aware of.
1. Linux bios will boot everytime.
2. If u load the 4997 bios in slot 0 on chip you CAN boot slayer if u put original hd back in box.
3. If you try to load up a diff hd other then stock it will whipe your bios slot 0.
4. I have taken his 120gig and it works in my xbox. And oddly enough after a fresh bios load I have been able to boot my hd in his. (same with swapping chips)
5. This problem is also connected to SOME peoples problems with freezing on post, black screen no video, sound playing but video not moving.
6. All cables/connections/and hardware are in working order. (just seems to be the hd/chip/xbox that where together when problem happened dont work together. (Yet smile.gif)

Another thing I have had to do at times, if u leave the xbox you are working on unplugged for to long before u attempt the initial mod on it you CAN NOT boot any disk from the cdrom even though they are good. Problem being is you have to put original hd in and reset date/time, not sure why. (this is posted somewhere else but not enough should be added to someones sticky or something far to many people talking about this problem and noone getting the proper answer.) But after that if you have a good iso burn and one of the dvd's that actually are able to work with your media type it will boot to slayer. (exception see 3 above).

Hopefully with that info one of the talented people here know have to address this problem. I do not post much to boards please let me know if any of the info above is incorrect not trying to pass on false info. You will be hearing more from me know that I am gaining knowledge in this area.  Anyways this is real long winded if anyone can help fill in more facts about this problem please do. Hopefully we can knock it out with some team work.
