Title: Check Your Chameleon Carfully
Post by: slappy00 on September 22, 2003, 09:34:00 PM
I got my Chameleon today w/adaptor and was all set to start enjoying the wide world of XBOX mods whaen after cleaning and scraping the lpcs a bitand installing the chameleon, I got reset/reset/FRAG with no blue light.

No problem, just giggle it a bit and.... nothing, no led: reset reset FRAG....

Whipped out some AWG 20 and grounded the D0 to the case turned the xbox on Reset-Reset-FRAG ...

undid the AWG 20 and put the chameleon back on turned xbox on ... waitied for it to frag and then whipeed out the multimeter and checked it for +3.3v (on the solderpads of the cham)... yes there is +3.3v the hell is going on  unsure.gif

So i start looking at the chip very carefully and noticed that one of the legs connecting the center chip (says chem 1.3 on it (sticker-style  uhh.gif ) ) to the pcb was broke-off the leg was right below the "P" in "PIN-H" written on the pcb....

Now normally i would whip-out the ol' 20W and some tin and take care of it, but this is  hella-small connection and there is no way i could do it w/o bridging the adjecet pins....

so i am going to send it back to ez-2000....

Check your chip chances are if you are sure you did the install right the chip is bad... sucks to be me...

as an aside EZ2000 really has a problem packing their stuff adiquately I got my cham in a priority enevlope, with only some popped shrink-wrap protecting it  sad.gif ...

BTW- Make sure you don't put the cham on the adapter backwards... like me... and also make sure you push down on the adapter hard, but not crazy hard, after aligning it. It also helps to hold the adapter as someone screws it in for you. Worked everytime.

Doesnt help pushing down when a leg off of the IC is broke-off....

Trust me I did everything imaginable, before i checked it carefully: I think its the crappy shipping enevlope they send it in.

You should see what easy2000 sends it in.At least you add some white little spongy things. It's a envolope that will get mess up alot if little pressure is added.

we use box's becuase why not their free with fed ex and also i would never pack a chip in a envelope just not safe would cost me the seller to much to keep replacing chips and such.

Army, may I ask how many orders you get per day?

I would show you guys what Ez2000 shipped their chip in but you can probably get an idea just with short explanation:

Its a priority envelope with the chip wrapped in bubble wrap, an invoice, and some styrofoam covering some pinson the adaptor.

When i got this envelope I could see the chip bulging through the cardboard. When i pulled the chip and adaptor out I can safely say that over 70% of the bubble wrap was popped, offering no more protection than food-wrap.

If the sneaky mailperson didnt just leave this on my mailbox i would have outright refused it and had it sent back...

I still remember that time he jammed in two gamefly rentals...along with a magazine and some bills...

It was waaaaay too hard to get those games out... lets just say I couldn't use the prepaid envelopes anymore.  The games worked though, so yay to that...

Question: Is UPS cheaper then FedEx?

Really?  Can you give me an example?

I've had many things sent in from UPS... I still remember that time they came RIGHT on my sisters B-day... omg, I thought I was screwed, then I saw the guy standing outside with the package...

I was never so happy to see a UPS guy before.

sometimes they do good but as a biz owner i cant afford to rely on "sometimes" fed ex is garenteed to deliver .

I'm pissed now...

I tried to get the chips mailed to my friend, and now EZBuy is asking me to "scan my credit card" to make sure it isn't fraud because it's being mailed to someone else...

How the hell does scanning a credit card prove it's not fraud?

And plus, what if the certain user doesn't have a scanner or fax? :_(  I just wanna cancel now and reorder it to my address...

How small is that box xbox-wired ships in? Can it fit in tiny apartment boxes?

[EDIT: Made post more specific]

I got mine in a regular FedEx Box, wont fit in an apt box... And the FedEx guy wont leave it there... I say :

findout where the FedEx office is (nearest one) and pick it up from there (ask them to hold it there for you). Either that or try and be there when the FedEx guy arrives...
