Post by: TEAM XODUS on September 12, 2003, 01:18:00 PM
r u trying to flash evo-x dash or bios ?

only 256k version of evo-x bios should be used to flash ... please try follow the chameleon user manual , in order to update your BIOS.

Thanks for that John. I've tried that, but it always gives me the same message. Loading up, but it can't find Linuxboot.cfg. I'll try again with several variations and hopefully it'll work.

Allright, I managed to flash a different bank, it said it flashed bank 0 though. When I try anything on the current bank, it just flashes 0 again. When I go to bank 0, I need to turn it on 3 times for it to stay on, then nothing happens. Is that what's supposed to happen?

Okay

I here by put out a request to general public for a simple step by step guide to setting up the chameleon ..

from the past few posts it is clear that alot of people are confused about bios and dash .. this worries me ..

Please read alittle more before attempting to install and set up your chips ..

having said that ..

Bejiba i think u ment to say "bios"  .. and if that is the case then u either have a bad bios or u used a 512k version in which case set your chameleon to mode 2 .. and it should boot into the bios u flashed .. if not . .then simply choose another bank in mode 1 boot  back into cromwell and reflash with a 256 k version of your bios choice ( I strongly recomend u find a "colour" mod version of the bios )

pimpĀ„ I am sure u will find it alot faster and easier if you try look  through some of the very good tutorials available on this site. wink.gif

The same thing happened to me, what I did was go back to another bank, 3 for example, flash bank 0 with the original linux bios that was shipped with the chip, switch to bank 0, then flash bank 0

U do not need to switch between banks ..

No matter what bank u boot in the Chameleon-Cromwell bios will only ever flash bank 0 (265) or 0+1 (512) .. this is done by desing in order to try and prevent a user from locking themselves out .

The only thin k you need to remeber is if you boot in any other bank other than 0 .. you should change back to 0 when the flashing is done in order to access your new bios ..

Another common mistake is to use a 512k bios and to try and boot in mode1 change to mode 2 for a 512k bios .

dude i had the same problem and all you have to is this, you need to get the "OZXFlashCD" and put it on cd .. then put it on bank whatever you want .. after that put in the OZXFlashCD and then let it do its thang ... after that it will prompt you to put in the bios you prefer .. take out the OZXFlashCD .. then put in the cd with your bios on it. and hten walla! .. it will shut down from there take out the cd. put it back on bank 0 then push power. that should help.

Actually I got it to work with the X2_4977 bios.

I did basically what gman22 suggested.  I started it up with the Eject button, and IMMEDIATELY closed the tray.  When it closed on screen, it was flashing "Waiting for media" or something to that effect.  I inserted my CD-RW with the bios and a dummy file, and less then a minute later, it shutdown and works perfectly.

Thanks for the hint gman22, I was getting frustrated and your post sent me down the right track.

Other than that, the install went completely smooth, the solderless adapter is a breeze to work with, though on a v1.0 xbox you do have to desolder about 8 holes.

if you have the thompson drive, what media are you using?

I do have the Thompson drive, and I used Memorex CD-RW media (the little
185MB CD-RWs worked great, I had them laying around).

The only problems I had were that 1) I use the SVGA adapter on my XBOX so no
video appeared on screen until I switched to the composite cable, and 2) I
had the "Close DVD Try to Select" message which I got around by turning the
box on with the eject button and immediatel closing the drive, and it said,
"Waiting for Bootable Media" or something to that effect.  Once it did that,
I opened the tray, inserted the disc, and it flashed fine.
