Title: Is It Just Me Or Is The Matrix?
Post by: rms2001 on June 15, 2003, 12:13:00 AM
I like the Matrix, its a great chip. I've only had mine move once. I took mine all the way to Oregon and back and the chip never moved. It was 1,100 miles each way and my XBox sat in the back seat of my Jeep, chip never moved. All though I did bring my torx bits with me just incase.

Any way, I have herd a few people having this prob. What you can do is hot-glue the sucker to the motherboard. Just on the corners, just enough so it wont move.

No problems here with my Matrix. I am sick of people saying it is a POS. The only problem I had with it was once I bought my Xbox on a roadtrip, and when I got home, it didn't always boot the modified BIOS. Just did a simple re-align, and 8 minutes later, back in action!

If you are tried of always aligning it, just solder it in

I've had to re-align it only once in about 6 months......Like shan said, it took bugger all time to do. I guess it's to be expected at some stage with a solder-less mod.

lets face it the matrix is an expensive cheapmod for those who don't want to solder. i'm not bashing it tho as it opened the scene up to people who would normally never get involved

I have a Matrix installed in my 1.1 Xbox, Other than the issue with the alignment LED on 1.1 Xboxes, I had no problems - been runing 6 months just fine.

as per your topic question, it's just you, lol
Mine has worked fine from day one, and I have never had to
realign it ever. 2 very important things I think make for
problem free install 1. replace the screw with a #6 x1/2"
sheet metal screw. 2. clean the varnish off the D0 point.

I use a screw from a NES to hold down my chip. It rarely comes loose.

I don't have a prob with the stock screw. All thing I didn't tighten it down with the force of an impact wrench like some people either.

mine has been fine, my m8 brings his box round and we get 12 player halo, yet it still never need re-alligning. he even had it in his rucksack and brought it by normal public transport and was fine.  its a good chip and works fine for what it was made to do.  besides even if it does come lose just a little tap on the side of the xbox and its back in place.

Apply a small amount of solder to the d0 pogo pin so that it makes a sharp point and you will never have problems again.  The point will poke into the d0 hole and never come loose.

but make sure you dont press too hard or you may damage the d0 point totally

I can also say that mine has given me no troubles at all.  I think a lot of people have problems because they don't have the patience/skill to align it properly and make sure it is secure.  Put some effort into doing it right, and not just quickly, and it will work just fine.

in otherwords its a great chip considering its function and time of production, but other than that, it has been outdated more or less now

the chip has been great for me.
I haul my xbox around for a 2 hour drive every weekend and it's never moved on me.

I have to say I love my Matrix as well. I had a bad flash the first time I used it, but once I used a new 9V and put it back in I have yet to have a problem with it. I just took it out to flash the new X2 bios that came out the other day. Still working like a champ. I even have a 120GB drive all set up. Nice chip for what it does. I do want a X2 pro though. Its just where I am now this is the best for the situation.

OK, the verdict seems to be that there's nothing wrong with the Matrix.
