Title: Matrix On V1.1
Post by: SMP_Homer on May 02, 2003, 05:57:00 AM
The Matrix LED acts differently on a 1.1 box
even though it's lined up properly, it may still not go green.
you don't need to fill those holes, but it is easier to do if they are.

Well,

I am at a loss here:
I guess the problem is because the holes are not filles
the pogopins go in deep, retracting the g-spot pin from the g-spot.
So I decided (for testing purposes) NOT to tighten the screw, just to
have the matrix rest on the mobo, neatly alligned.

And hurrah, I got the green light in mode 2 and 3.
However, the xbox still boots the ms bios? Who's
fooling who ? (I use a colormod, so I can tell by the logo
color wether it boots the matrix bios. Also, remember
the same chip works in my box!)

Any thoughts ? I would like to make my sister happy
(the box is hers)

TIA

It seems that on V1.1 the D0 contactor of the Matrix don't work very well if you not obstruct the LPC holes because the alignment is not correct.

grr.gif

I have soldered all points to be sure of the connections, still but ms BIOS or beep + 3 reboot depending of the mode 2/3/4 !!!

D0 is correctly soldered and checked.

No Idea ?

(correctly mounted in 1.1 you should get a green blink when you turn it on then it goes red in test mode).

Have had that quite a few times, however the damn thing keeps booting the ms bios sad.gif

If I try that silver stuff:

1. can I damage anything (seems pretty safe to me)
2. can i still solder id it doesn't work ?

TIA

Well  if you use too much it could short the plc bridge i guess. But that would need alot. Alot more risk in soldering.
You can wash the silver paint away with rubbing alcohol and solder if you want to.

Still haven't got a clue how to get those holes filled with a FLAT surface sad.gif

You can do it!! its easy dont worry about it, what I did when learnoing how to soler was get lots of those soldering kits from jaycar (australian shop) and then made them then you have something useful when you make it instead of wires on a old pc crad doing nothing! if you need info about sldering you can either buy tonnes of helful books or look for a tut on the net.

With silver paint it's actually easier to fit a matrix on a 1.1 then on a 1.0. Since the pogopins goes down into the lpc bridge there's no way in h*ll it'll move from that location. I have done this procedure on 3 boxes. Never had to do any adjustment and it passes the shake test without getting unaligned  biggrin.gif

So basicly you are saying that the problem ain't touching the d0 point, but making a good connection
on the lpc holes ??? I noticed the smaller part of the pogo pins go all the way into the holes.

Should I put the matrix in directly after the paint is put in, or wait for the paint to dry ?

I never had any D0 alignment problems on a 1.1 (but i've only done it on 3 boxes). You can mask the D0 with some tape and use silver paint on that as well if you should encounter ny problems.

I let the paint dry (takes 3-5 minutes).

biggrin.gif  Got it (Matrix+v1.1) working but I had to do by the HARD way. I tried everything (cleaning, more tin to holes) with the motherboard and chip. DID NOT WORK. So I did some soldering and IT WORKS. Nine wires between motherboard and Matrix-chip. My soldering is not so good (god damn shaking hands...hangover) and still I got it working.

Be bold and just try what I did!!

congrats!

Did you solder to the d0 on top of the board or the bottom ?
(the d0 seems the hard part, the lpc holes are way bigger)

And how much solder skills did you have ?

I dont know why you guys are having issues getting the Matrix to work.

I have a v1.1 xbox and mine aligned within a minute or two. When testing you WILL NOT see a consistent green light in MODE 1. Put the chip in MODE 2.

My suggestion is to use a colored BIOS to check that you have total continuity.

I installed my chip and loaded up via the latest SLAYERS disk. Everythign works perfect.

Basically I cleaned the D0 and soldered some tin over it and after that soldered the wire to D0 on the top side. D0 is really tiny but I got guite good soldering work on it so that is not going to be the first loosened wire of those 9 wires I soldered between Matrix and DX's.

Not much soldering skills on me but maybe the fairy of LUCK was on my side this first time wink.gif
