Title: Xodus/matrix Mod Chip And Xbox V1.0
Post by: Wooger on January 09, 2003, 08:03:00 AM
Hey,

Has anyone noticed any problems with installing the latest evox d.6 bios on a matrix mod chip and then putting the chip in a ver 1.0 box?  I have just installed two mod chips both with the latest evox d.6 bios, one into a ver 1.0 xbox and one into a ver 1.1 xbox.  And the ver 1.1 xbox works flawlessly but the ver 1.0 xbox sometimes has trouble reading the evolution x boot cd and wont boot evolution x off the hard disk.  It displays "Matrix Inside" like when the mod chip is enabled but goes directly to the xboxdashboard when attempting to boot from the hard disk.    I haven't had any time to do any research into the matter other than i verified i have the correct bios for the v 1.0 xbox and that I have evolution x installed on the hard drive properly.  And if I attempt to boot off the cd half the time when the cd is in the drive when the unit is powered on it reads the cd-rw and boots the evolutionx dash and the other half the time it will say its not a recognized cd and i just have to open and close the cd tray for the xbox to attemp to re-read the cd?

Any Idea's or thoughts.
Thanks,
Wooger

just to let you know, the matrix inside thing is part of the latest version of evolution-x dashboard, and nothing to do with the d6 bios. So if you see that it's booting the dashboard, so the problem may be with the evox.ini file.

I can verify that.... its my brothers xbox and unless he has edited the .ini or renamed some files wrong I doubt the .ini is wrong cause I am using the same .xbe and .ini file on the ver 1.0 box and the 1.1 box.

Anything Else you might can think of?

As far as booting from the dvd yes i would agree. That ver 1.0 box sux.... cd/dvd reader sux.... but Im more interesting in why it doesnt boot evoluation x off the hard drive.  One person stated above that if it says "Matrix Inside" then its actually booting evolution-x but there is a configuration issue.  Though I use the same .ini and .xbe on a 1.1 box and it works no prob.   I'll have to double check the .ini on the 1.0 box for sure.

ok, I'm not sure about your exact setup between the v11 and v10. But, from the symptoms of MATRIX Inside graphic then xbox dashboard. Doesn't this mean that it can't find the evox.xbe or ybox.xbe? I thought the X logo was bios ( this is why you can turn it red or blue with different bios). So, if you are expecting the HD to run evox, does that mean you have evox.xbe and evox.ini on the c drive?

Well I was under the impression if you see the "xxx inside" which in this case is matrix then the bios is enabled on your mod chip.  It is a function built into the bios that you flash into the mod chip.  But according to blackout_19 its not in the bios its a function of evolution-x dashboard.  I havent really paid that much attention but ill check it tonight, its easily figured out by just booting the xbox without a bootcd or evolution x installed and the bios enabled and see what comes up.

Also about it not being able to find the evox.xbe or the ybox.xbe... I am thinking thats what it is.  I believe my brother has some how attempted to modify the configuration i sent him and he has just monkey'd it all to hell.  But correct me if I am wrong on this but the newest D6 bios boots in this order...

1) It looks for the evoxdash.xbe file
2) If it doesnt see evox.xbe it tries ybox.xbe
3) If it doesnt find either the two it looks for default.xbe
4) If yet it still does not find any of the three listed above it boots xboshdash.xbe
(Not to hard of a concept)

But as I posted earlier I have on the C drive the evox.ini and the evoxdash.xbe.  The weird part is if i create a evolution-x boot cd with the same .xbe and .ini file it will boot off the cd/dvd drive.  But if I attempt to boot from the hard drive it just goes directly to the M$ Dashboard.

The configuration works fine with the 1.1 box. Running the same bios.
(Yes if you read the readme of the newest D6 Bios it works in either v10 or v11 xbox's)

Looking for the default.xbe first before booting any bios on the hard drive makes more since.  I looked into it once before a while back and I couldnt understand how it would look locally first before booting from the dvd.... cause if it looked locally first and found a file that matched the filename it was looking for but was damaged the xbox wouldnt boot and at that point it would be toast untill you corrected the content on the hard drive....
