Title: Help! My Matrix Is Still Working After A Month!
Post by: duff on November 26, 2002, 10:45:00 AM
Ok, you guys have to help here.  I installed my Matrix about a month ago and for some reason it is still working...  I'm not sure why this is.  I installed it correctly and have been swaping the bios more times than a porn star switches partners during a gang bang.

Wasn't this thing designed to break?  I can't get mine to do this.  If someone is having the same problem as me or has any info on what I am doing wrong please let me know!

Congrats, Duff.

My Dad used to love Chevettes.... it was hit or miss, though; he'd get one that would go 300,000 miles before it gave him problems, and another that was nothing but trouble.

Moral to the story?

Where did you get the walrus tusk?  Do you have a part #?

Radio Shack has 'em.

I still need that part #.  I don't want to get the wrong one.  Damn Matrix might still work if I get the wrong tusk.

Ok, I went to radioshack and asked them about their walrus tusk's.  Unfortunantly they were out of stock and didn't know for sure when they would be in.  So I am checking on ebay for them. Does anyone know if this one will work? (click here)
There are actually 2 walrus tusks with this offer.  If these work I was wanting to know if someone will go in halves with me.  Let me know!

no one said your chips didnt work

what WAS said was that they are an overpriced CLONE of FREE code and data that costs $4 to make

oh happy day when you all realise that 256k is just not good enough (but of course you can butcher your onboard flash - I forgot about that)

but hey doesnt that include soldering ?

kinda rules you lot out then lol  laugh.gif

if you cant find someone to split with you just use one tusk to secure the chip in place and use the other tusk to stab it untill it breaks. seems foolproof to me. maybe we should ask opjose first to make sure this is safe.

I guess it is pathetic when such an obviously blatant attempt at humor gets people pissed off because they are fanboys of a certain product.

But I am still trying to find someone who will split the cost for the walrus tusks.  I still haven't found a way to get my matrix to stop working...

I am not a fanboy.  I like all modchips.  The reason you see me posting more on the matrix is because I have one and have experience with it.  You can search my posts and you will see that I am not against any modchip.  I would have bought an X-2 Pro if it were out when I was looking for a mod chip (assuming it works properly).  The reason I post things like this is to get a rise out of fanboys like you.

I honestly don't give a shit if it was ripped off a different idea. What the Xodus team did was sucessful because it sold many units and still is selling many units.
And think about what you just said.  You don't like companies who rip off designs...  Mod chips were made to play backups.  Most people are downloading games, or copying rented games for the Xbox insted of buying the origional copies.  You disagree with the Xodus team for ripping off an idea to make a good product, but you agree with ripping off the software developers by not paying for their development costs.  You are nothing but a hipocrite.  I know you will deny this, but it's the truth.

its about ripping off a GNU design that is free to the public and then profiting from it (in a BIG way)

you can really tell you are not involved in any development work

No matter what you think the fact remains that right now the Matrix is the best chip on the market - period [ and not because it is a solder-less option either , so enough of this soldering B.S. Please !!! I can probably out solder 99% of the people on this forum but that does not make me want to claim that the Matrix is junk because it doesn't need to be soldered in - I have installed chips for years ] .
As far as some group making a profit on another groups ideas [ or hard work ] this has been normal practice for business since it started otherwise we would all be driving Ford cars right now [ think about it ] . If people are willing to pay for the chip then it makes little difference that it can be done much cheaper [ economics 101 ] .
__ Bottom Line : buy what you want to use and don't bash others that use something you don't like just because you don't agree with how the product came to be [ because it really does not matter to most people , they just want a solution that works ] .

Just a little help for anybody with an UNbroken matrix:

If you cannot take the constant green light anymore, use the walrus tusk (AND ONLY THE TUSK!) to break the little green LED and replace it with a red one to get this "Argh, it feel like my matrix is broken" feeling.
If you like to can also install a ridicoulously (wrong spelling?) expensive device that is bigger than your xbox to finally make it blink red/green and boot on and off 3 times whenever you start your xbox.

I happen to sell those unreasonably expensive devices. Just leave me a PM... I'd say we start at 300US$.

LOL!! ROFL!!! THAT'S RICH!

If you were involved in development in any way (or, frankly, if you were over the age of 12), you'd know that happens all the time!

Someone comes out with a piece of software (hell... someone comes out with any type of product at all)... someone's always there to reverse engineer it, tweak it, make it a little better, then re-release it. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

Geezus... if that pisses you off, I'd hate to see you when you're actually out in the real world.

Remember... there are no original ideas, only reworks of old ideas.

i bet you sat there for 10 minutes adding all those italics

Kidding aside, I think somebody better put a stop on this thread already, it's funny, but it's not helping anyone. This forum is about helping those who are in need. Getting rid of ridiculous and useless (no offense everyone, no pun intended either) topic should help newbs get a search result that are more usefull, making them advance one step further.

It's funny reading this but it's turning into something between duff and biosboy, and frankly it's turning ugly.

Anyone who agree should reply to this thread...just kidding  jester.gif

Jeez, Moderators can move this thread in the comedy section already, it so hilarious  laugh.gif .

You think we're kidding?  I am currently working on my masters thesis at yale university and this walrus tusk/matrix thing is my topic.  It could be a huge technological step forward to bridging the gap between ivory and electronics.  That is if I win the walrus tusks on ebay.  If not screw it all!

this is the same garbage that goes on in the ps2 scene and even the vcd scene for that matter ... nothing new here  rolleyes.gif .

                                    Well said!

The fact of the matter is, the Matrix is available now, works great and affordable.  So, why the hell shouldn't I buy it but instead, wait for a "genuinely developed" one?!  It doesn't make sense.

And for those worried about the future and the 256k limit, get over it and go play some games and watch some movies, 'cuz at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

i bet you sat there for 10 minutes adding all those italics

you still dont fucking get it do you

if something is on GNU - you dont go making an exact copy of it - sticking some pogos and sell it for $59

you call me a 12 year old ?

better than being an ignorant retard

La la la... let's see... is it worth it? Weeeeelllll... I'm in a mood this morning... sure...

Listen to yourself, you idgit... if you ADD something to a design it's not a GD exact copy, now, is it!

And that's the point... Xodus saw a need and a way to enhance an existing design. Then, yeah, they sell it to try to make a dime. Happens every GDF day in the real world. Get over it.

If you're so damned concerned about the GNU version, add pogo-pins to it and put it back out there. Frankly, the time it would take me to locate, buy and install pogo-pins on the GNU version myself would cost more than the $59 I can pay Xodus/Easybuy to do it.

But time to a 12 year old is free... so feel free to go for it, man. Nobody's stopping you. Of course, if it takes you 10 minutes to add italics (heck, it only takes me a fraction of a second)... you're going to need a lot (oooooh... italic and bold... that'll cost me) of time.
