You are meant to change the matrix modes will the XBox is switched on?? Didnt know that, sounds dodgy, electrocution etc etc....

You should be able to switch the settings with it off. Then the next time you turn you XBox on, the chip will start with your new settings.

When I had the screw tight and the light was still green I turned off the Xbox and then adjusted the switches to the mode I wanted.
Fired up the Xbox and it work without any issues. Total time was 3-5 minutes...
Just be carefull to not drop your screw driver or touch any other part of the Xbox with the screw driver and you should be OK..
