250gb is not needed. neither is a 120gb. its all about what you want. are you using up most of the space on the 120? do you think you need another 130gb in your xbox? are you willing to spend the money for the drive? if you answer yes to all the questions, sounds like its worth it to you to upgrade hard drives. if not, then just stay with the 120. i dont see whats taking up so much space anyway, unless you've got lots of games or xbmp-compatible pr0n on there  
if you dont have a dvd burner, you may see that as a good thing to spend money on rather than the bigger hard drive. just think about how much space you're currently using, how much you plan to use, and if you see a reason to have more space.

Yeah that's kinda what i think.. There's a huge jump in price between a 120 and a 250. I'd personally rather have a 120, samsung 616 and a dvd burner. +the dvd burner can be used for things other than xbox. That's what i'm working toward at least.

They hacked the kernel, so now (with the right bios) the xbox can handle any hard drives up to 2 terabytes.  i think at 2 terabytes that MAYBE you MIGHT have a little too much extra space.

There is max of ~140GB on the xbox so 120GB is the largest you can go with the current set of retail drives.  You won't be disappointed with a burner.

ok first it was 137gigs now you can put just about any thing you want in there. id go with the burner like you said you can use it for other stuff too plus 120 gigs is plenty

I have a 120GB drive in my Xbox, with about 80+GB of space free that I may never use.

I use my Xbox for emulation and Media Player, and stream all my music/movies across the network.  Hell, with Xport's new emulators, I could even access my ROMs from a network share.

Why buy a 250GB HDD?  How many games do you really need installed on your hard drive?  How many do you REALLY play enough to warrant them taking up that space?

For me, a mere 27GB HDD would be sufficient.

why not.....
put 2 120 gig drives in there and not bother with the dvd drive!!!!!

I have a lot of DIVX stuff, and its great having it on the hard drive, instantly accessible, heck, if they had terabyte drives i'd need a bigger one :-)

I've got a 120 gig and a dvd writer that does me fine, I've found that some divx things dont like being played of disc tho while they work perfectly fine on the hard drive

as for copied games, I own 14 original games and never will copy any, I has a PSone once and over 200 CDR games, I never bothered playing any of them fully as I got bored quickly

if you actually pay for a game, you do two things, Pay the people that actually made it, and you try to get your money's worth by playing it fully

If however you do own the originals, then backing them up on the hard drive makes things much easier, just selet the one from the menu and away you go!, much quicker loading on some too

So it seems the sweet spot is the 75 gig but considering we want the most bang for our buck (a single large HD) if you have $300 sitting around, get the 320gig otherwise get the largest drive you can afford to maximize your investment.  It really pays to save another $37 and get the 180 gig due to the .31/gig price difference but the 160 is very attractive at the < $100 price!

if you want a ton of games/movies accessable at all times then go for it.  Otherwise, who cares?

i personally delete games after i get tired of them, except for some "classics" like halo and rallysport challenge.

btw, i have an 80 gigger thats fairly full.

-If- you have to make a choice between a dvdr and a hard drive upgrade then get the dvdr. (did you say that you had too?)

-If- don’t have to make that choice then base your purchasing decision based on what you think you (really) need.

A dvdr gives you permanent backups, ease of portability and storage.
A replacement HD gives you more storage space whether it be for your PC or Xbox.
Simply reformat the 120 GB drive and put it in your PC.

I use a 300GB hard drive in my xbox.
I use every -bit- of it and wish it were bigger still.

your division is all backwards

anyway, if you get the dvd burner you have to buy dvds, and those can get really expensive, personally id rather go with larger hard drive, i have a 160 now and am rapidly running out of space (i take my xbox to alot of parties and its so much easier to not have to worry about bringing all my discs and making sure i have them all when i leave)

he's right. you're supposed to divide the dollar value by the number of (theoretical) gigs present  to get the value per gig.

ex. 320GB at $298

$298 divided by 320 parts turns out to be roughly $0.93 per gig, not "$1.074/gig"
