Title: No Video Signal (help Needed)
Post by: Ironcrown on July 23, 2003, 02:41:00 PM
First off... you screwed up big time.  Unless you connect to a TV that has the ability to display those settings, you're in for a long, hard time.  Reason I know is that this is one of the 20 stupid things I did to my box before.

You'll have to BLINDLY navigate your way through to the utility and change it back.  Guess, use noise as a guide, use splotches on the screen to assist... whatever.  It sucks and it took me an hour and a half of screwing around one day to fix.

Another option is to put the original HD nack in and turn off your chip.  Doing this might bring up the menu (withh or without the sound) and set the screen settings in there.  I haven't tried this, but it seems like a slim possibility.

Last option is a new Xbox.  Good luck.   wink.gif

Hi Ironcrown,

thanks for your replay. What utility do you mean ? The original MS dash menu ?
But how can I change PAL/NTSC/NTSC-M  ?
By the way, I have another modchip Executer Lite 2.1 that still have Linux bios on it. So I put this modchip into my XBOX and when I turn XBOX on I can see jumping picture of Linux welcome screen. I connected my XBOX to PC with capture card and figured out that output signal is NTSC-M. But when I take modchip out I don't see anything - no mater what input video format I select on a capture card. I'm thinking to flash this modechip with 1.8.3752 Bios, but I'm not sure if this will fix my problem.

Do you know if there is any XBOX Linux application to switch video output format (PAL/NTSC) on XBOX ?

Thanks.
Mark.

Find someone with the same XBMP with that new feature and ASK THEM/BEG THEM to write down what buttons need to be pressed in what screens to change it back! Thats the only way unless you think you can do it blindly like that other guy said!

Hey, tonight I may upgrade to the new xbmp (those new features sound cool and I have a HDTV) if I do I'll try and help ya man  wink.gif

My TV is a 16:9 HDTV.  Whatever NTSC-J is it's bad.
Even 2 pictures of the settings screen and the video sub menu would be very helpful.

Ok guys im downloading it!  wink.gif

J/W why the hell did you click on it if your tv can't display that? Did you think your tv would magically turn 16:9 lol.

I'll explain you why I changed this setting. I use XBMP to see PAL and NTSC movies.
The problem was with aspect ratio of movies on my TV (NTSC 4:3). For NTSC movie I put aspect ratio to 0 (in XBMP screen settings) and it looks good, but for PAL movies I have to put it to 0.24. So I thought that may be this new setting in XBMP will solve my problem.

I'm running EVOX dashboard but no amount of button pressing is going to solve this because I just realized that XBMP is not loading.  It trys and then goes back to EVOX.  I can tell by how many drive letters are avail in FTP.  I also tried the original HD which is unmodified, still no video.  Disabling or removing the mod chip is also no help.  This setting must have wrote something to the hardware.

Hey guys I found out how to fix it. Even after I replaced my whole XBMP folder it still had the garbled shit and froze when I launched it. So I found it was saving the most recent settings in:

E:TDATAface007 in "system.bin".

If you are only having problems when loading XBMP DELETE that directory!

I also found a bunch of weird shit in there like pictures I never accessed that were on my comp. Very weird!

I have the HDTV pack and an HDTV.
There is no video, not even the xbox splash screen when you first turn it on.  Just audio.  EVOX loads but XBMP will not.  If I can't load XBMP, there is no hope of fixing it the same way it was screwed up.

I can ftp into it in EVOX but that doesn't help.  I've restored all files from backup.  I have booted from my original EVOX CDRW but still no video.

This NTSC-J setting either wrote a change to the onboard bios or damaged hardware.

I would like to think I won't have to buy a new xbox to fix this.

Whatsup,

I only wish it were that easy but I have no video anywhere, ever.  Not in EVOX or in MSDashboard.

I made a XBOX bootable disk  with  "XBOX.NTSC.PAL.Video.Mode.Selector.Version2" application. Then boot my XBOX with this CD and press button B on controller. Then turned off and on XBOX and everithing is fine now !!!
Thanks to everyone for help.

I screwed up and did pretty much the exact same thing. Well, the problem now is, I used the 007/Phoenix Loader Exploit to get Evox and XBMP into my XBox. After I played with the settings, only sound and no video. So I thought I would replace the files, didn't work. Changed it back to my MS Dashboard, Sooo, now it loads up my MS Dash (still sound only) and i can't FTP it or anything. (I put it back to MS Dash hoping it would fix the problem, guess not)

I got that XBOX.NTSC.PAL.Video.Mode.Selector.Version2 and burnt it on CDRW. Put it in my xbox, waited and press B. Off/On Xbox.. same thing (sound, no video). I was wondering if my XBox could read CDRW originally or am i screwed? Plz, any insight.

If burned properly I believe that most Xbox's will read CDRW.

WoW i wished i would have been in this technical forum more often cuz i just did the same thing. But I got it back with Video selector program. I transfered all the apps from the xbox to compuiter and put only the video selector on the xbox. So I knew how to navigate to the apps folder in evox and the only app there was the right app so that was no problem. I pressed B and restarted xbox.. and it works like usual now. THANKS GUYS!!!!

LOL, i'm still screwed. I tried burning it. Okay, first off my xbox's not modded. I have a Thomson Drive (checked by looking at the tray, one of the pinned threads) well, the CDRW doesn't even work w/ my bro's modded Xbox, Thomson Drive also. I used a HP CD-RW as the media. It's been sitting there for the pass 2 months.. (no time either to fiddle w/ it..) but.. can anyone help me?.. or give me some leads?. I don't wanna have to mod it yet.. and if i did, dunno if it'll work (since the CD didn't work on my bro's Xbox).. <sigh>.. i'll be checking back .. thanx..

If your xbox isn't modded unless you are running the software exploit (either font or audio) your cd isn't going to boot.  The best way around this that i can think of is audio sign the video select xbe file and drop it in the mech save game.  Good luck with that

HELP!

I think I sufferred a 1-2 punch.  If anyone help can help, please respond.

I suffered the dropped video problem as I was friggin' with XBMP to get aspect ratio's correct.  The box would boot, I could hear sounds but no video.  The NTSC/PAL selector would have helped here.

Life would have been simple had I checked the boards before I did what I did, but, I opted to disconnect my Matrix chip on my XBOX v1.0 and hope that all things would reset - it didn't, but when I try to turn on my box now, not only have I lost video (still get the sound the xbox turning on), but I also get a red/green flashing light on the outside display.  My matrix chip appears to be running fine.

I even reinstalled the original unmodified hard drive and took out the matrix chip to no avail.

EDIT:  Figured it out!!!  Thank god...essentially had to reflash the chip and reinstall it and the do the video switch program.    Thanks for the info..

Does anyone know if this if fixed in future XBMP releases?

Am I screwed or what?

I once had a red/green flashing light problem and had to change the IDE cable.   I went and put a brand new IDE cable adapter - no improvement.

Any ideas?  I don't want to spend another buck-50 for a new box.  Thanks.

zyp

wanna just add my thanks too!
you would figure buying an XBox in Japan and using it on a Japanese TV would mean you could set it to NTSC-J?
Nope!
thanks for the file, worked like a charm!

Nice to see that the videoselector works for everyone.

But however this does NOT work for me (actually my friends box).

He also had fiddled with xbmp and ntsc-j and now theres no video only startup sound.
There is also NO FTP access (doesnt respond at all).
Have tried booting on cd-rw and dvd-rw (thompson drive) with enigmah and then press B or A but no go...

Wtf could be the problem here.

Xbox Version 1.0 with Matrix chip and xecuter 4977 (or 4976.02 not totally sure) bios by the way....

Managed to finally solve it with booting on a cd-rw with configmagic and restoring a blank eeprom (this was the ONLY way for me).

You guys are life savers.  I was getting ready to go buy a new xbox and start the whole process all over again.

I can't believe they would put such a setting in XBMP to cause something like this to happen, but live and learn I guess.

One more note I would like to leave you all with for your amusement.

In my excitement to apply this fix, I labeled the Enigmah disk, and forgot to burn it.  Took a few reboots and some messing around before I realized there was nothing on the disk to fix the xbox.  After I remembered to burn it, everything came back up like a charm.

Thanks again to all you very helpful peeps.
