Title: Games Not Loading In Widescreen
Post by: shoked on April 12, 2009, 09:53:00 PM
I can't get any games to load in Widescreen. I have a chip and have tried both UnleashX and now re-formatted with Evox 1.26, adjusted settings on MS Dash for Widescreen but all games on HDD still come up in 4:3 on my 16:9 TV.

What step or option am I missing? Is this even possible with S-Video or Composite cables? The dashboards show up in Widescreen but no games, so I assume it's not the cables.

Cheers!

im pretty sure you need component cables for widescreen capability, but im not 100% sure.
i never noticed a difference between widescreen and normal until i switched to component. then it is the actual difference between full screen and black bars on a hdtv.
also, if you have a widescreen tv, is it set to "full" mode, where it stretches the video to full screen. that might cause you to think it is actually in widescreen.

I got some component cables but it appears to be the same, although I can set the console for 480p/720p/1080i. My TV automatically changes the pic size to Full but it looks stretched, and when I go back to Natural it's in 4:3.

I would fire up my friend's retail unit but I have no games to test it with.

I'm lost.

wait, you said in the first post, the dashboard works in widescreen, but not the games. then right now you said you don't have any games?? do you mean you tried with games on the hard drive??
whatever, i doesn't really matter. do your games support hi-def? i think that in order to use the widescreen mode in games, they must support hd. here is a list of games that support 16:9 ratio
http://www.hdtvpub.com/productdb/games/ind...amp;searched=do
apparently, all of them but 5 are HD capable (480p). idk if they have to be in HD mode to work, but it seems likely.
hope i could help.

I know this is crazy time.

The MS and Evox Dahes were in WS because my TV switched to Full mode, but the MS Dash looked normal and actually looked squished in Natural mode (4:3). The game I tried most recently was Halo 2 which is on the HD list and also looks stretched, I think. I'm not a TV expert by any means.

UnleashX on the other hand was in Natural and showed WS 1080i according to my TV, but games were not WS, unless I switch to Full mode size.

I'm guessing this is just my TV because the same thing happens on a retail box, just using the MS dashboard to test it, TV switches to Full mode when changing the Video size on the dashboard.

Thanks.

It is your TV. Mine does it too. I'm using a Toshiba 42" and this problem constantly pisses me off. It has to do with the fact that sometimes, when software is switching modes, it halts the video signal to the tv (that moment where the screen is black) and the tv resets its mode when it detects a new signal.

So are you saying Toshiba TVs wont display games in widescreen? I just got a Toshiba hl167 and setup my Xbox .  Ive had trouble with games not displaying full screen and I came across this thread when looking for possible fixes.

In any event if that is not the problem, Im using the Ndure Softmod Through Xboxhdm and using NDure 3.1  I have changed the settings in the MS dash to allow 720p and 1080i.  When I boot up the Xbox the main Xbox screen is still 4:3 but when it goes to XBMC it displays as 16:9.  When I go to start up a game like Halo 2 or any other widescreen game it reverts back to 4:3.  If I go back and check the settings on the MS Dash they are still showing 720P and 1080I as being enabled.  Im at a little loss on whats going on here.
