Title: Connecting Xbox To Monitor?
Post by: TheMarine on July 23, 2007, 04:09:00 PM
I just bought an Acer X222Wbd 22" LCD Widescreen and I was wondering if there was any way I could connect my xbox to it.. The monitor has DVI and D-sub connectors, HDCP support, 1000:1 contrast ratio, and audio input. I was hoping I could make some kind of connector on the back, kind of like RCA jacks but maybe like a DVI port to plug the monitor into and have the DVI port in the back of the box connected to the motherboard. Is that possible?? If anyone can help me in what I need (idk if i'm explaining it correctly), that'd be glorious

or a wintv card in your computer. it makes it so you can take in game screenshots, and it's just another window open on your computer(my current setup). the best part about it is when ftping, or editing stuff on your xbox and you gotta look stuff up also, just open up another window

just slap it into an old computer that doesn't work for anything else. the only downfall, is that your computer has to be on wink.gif

so there's no way to just make a cable like on this tutorial? http://xbox-scene.co...s/vga-cable.php

I mean, I even wouldn't mind soldering to the xbox mainboard and adding a connector to the back of my xbox for a DVI cable to plug into if thats possible (that'd be my most desired choice if its possible).

Umm... yes, you CAN use a simple VGA cable to hook up your XBOX to your LCD. (people just seem to forget about my work... sad.gif)

Follow this tutorial to make the cable:

http://www.360mods.n...cle/sid=32.html

And you will also need to patch your modchip's BIOS to be VGA compatible. You will need my VGA patcher (VGA Patcher v0.8) to do this. Follow the links in my signature for details on doing this.

NOTE: Be sure you have at least 480p enabled in your Microsoft Dashboard before doing this mod.

is it possible at all I can just modify the stock xbox audio/video cable? I was thinking I could cut it at about 1/2 way, keep the side that plugs into the xbox, then somehow figure out which wires go where and make the other end a MALE s-video. because my LCD has an s-video input that I could plug in to..

also, is there any possibility that I can make this happen without doing any patches or anything? and when I mean play on my LCD, I mean the WHOLE screen, not just like a video capture screen..

for reference

the pins you need to get to wouldn't have wires conected on a standard cable

I used frosties bios, and it worked like a charm.
I have two bioses on my system one hd and one non.

Normally I run using hd cables (RGB and audio) to a Component to vga adapter. (easy to find at any sattalite tv place)

If I go to a friends place, I just pack my normal cables and flash to a nonhd version of the bios.

Couple quick tips.
If you ever end up running a non hd bios, (or are running one and your hdoutput is not enabled) and only have hd cables running, you can plug in the GREEN output into the video in component jack on your tv or vcr. that will get you a black and white screen that will still let you enter the ms dashboard and turn HD on.

Aside from that, frostys bios is amazing, it flashed fast, and running at 720p on my lcd monitor looks amazing. If I use it at work on a non wide screen one, 480 looks best (ratio and all that, I like my cd covers perfectly square)

If you can do the bios and vga patch, its definitly worth it. and its very very simple.
Frosty also has a Bootable one, that does not need you to patch anything. You just run it like a program. Its good to test and see how it all works. If you really dont want to patch, you can just run this when you boot, and have it all working

and yes, its full wide screen

Check frostys link for the info. and you can find the files you need in the usual places

thanks, thats good to know. smile.gif could I just use my 2nd bank on my modchip to put frosties bios on and just switch to that bank when I want to use my PC monitor?? doesn't that seem logical?

Yes, I definitely recommend using a dual-bank modchip when you are using a BIOS patched with my VGA patcher.

It's much easier in the long-run.  happy.gif

@hymieali: I'm glad you enjoy my work, native VGA on the XBOX is a beautiful thing, isn't it? biggrin.gif
