Title: Hdtv And An Xbox
Post by: spillage on July 09, 2007, 03:18:00 PM
Matt the xbox is capable of four video outputs as standard, composite (standard lead the comes with the xbox) S' Video aka advanced cable, RGB aka RGB/50 scart and lastly Component video or YUV/60 aka HD pack. Buy a microsoft HD pack if you can find one and you will have the necassary three RED GREEN and BLUE plugs to go into your display. In the dash, that M$ dash you will find ONLY when the HD lead is plugged in the enable disable screen for HDTV namely 480p/720p and 1080i. Enable what you display can handle natively NOT what it says in the hype. Eg if 1365 x 768, enable 480p and 720p if 1920 x 1080, well go all the way. The HD Pack, like the S' Video and RGB cables, also has an Optical out for DD and DTS if you have the cinema amp to suit.

hey spillage,
I got myself a component cable, not a MS one, a 3rd party one. On the MS DASH the only video setting that I have is the widescreen/normal tv one. I cannot find any definition setting, does it have to with my xbox being a PAL one? do I need to update via xbox live (i never used it until now)? my box is modded and I have evox, which has a PAL/NTSC switch, is it of any help (I posted a relevant question on the evox forum about that)?

You need to get yourself a copy of Enigmah Video switch and set it NTSC by pressing the B button. Then reboot your xbox. Then when you enter the MSDASH if your cable has HD capabilities then it will appear in the video setiings menu..

my mistake, SCII's 720p mode is in 4:3. I tried The Sims & they look great!
