anyone please?

one thing, does 480p have FSAA like 480i?

480p is 'Progressive' video, meaning that you see 100% of the image all the time (which means that you see the image for what it really is), whereas 480i is 'Interlaced' video, and you see the complete image twice per second, meaning you are never seeing the complete image. This effect tends to hide alot of the aliasing that exists at 720x480, which is why you may think 480i looks better.

So basically:

480p = Best Quality, see 100% of the image, shows all the full detail of the image. (including aliasing)  happy.gif

480i = Standard Quality, never see 100% of the image (50/50 per second), tends to hide aliasing due to the interlacing effect.

NOTE: AFAIK, the XBOX does not offer any kind of FSAA regardless of what video mode you are using.

Well, 720p is a higher resolution (1280x720 = 720p) whereas 480p is much lower (720x480 = 480p) so the aliasing is simply less noticable in 720p, but it's still there. (720p = smaller 'lines' which means less noticable aliasing)

And unfortunately no, there isn't really anything you can do about the aliasing in 480p.  sad.gif

Well, no, 480p DOES have a superior image to S-Video, Composite, or 480i, I was just under the impression that you did not like the jaggies. (aliasing)

The jaggies will be there no matter what, they are just less noticable at 480i. (480i is used for Composite, S-Video, and Component @ 480i.)

480p has far superior picture quality in comparison to 480i.

You might also want to look at someone elses LE32.
A popular TV but they have a problem  which is exactly the symptom you describe. In time you will see the effect on other picture content as well.
I thought it was faulty one the first one I got called to set up but have now noticed this (or a very similar problem to the one described) on every single one I have set up (That is a lot of them as well)
480P via component on my Panasonic does not have the effect, but take the box round to my mates who has the LE37 samsung and the picture is awful.
 I am a Samsung ASC and have had numerous words with the Tech rep about this but he says it is not a problem and I am "nit picking"
Maybe I am but I don't see this effect on other similar price LCD sets.
Strange thing is most customers (General public) don't notice it but it bugs me every time I install one now.

exactly..

the tv has a great picture with antena and with my rgb/s-video cable, the quality is exelent.. usualy the hd tv's aren't very sharp connecting by scart devices like consoles with the regular resolution(640x480 or 720x480).
but in 480p, the image gets really bad! i think i'll desactivate the 480p in dashboard but mantain the 720p for xbmc and some games that suport 720p because in that resolution, the image is exelent too.

for example, if i run DOA3 with 480p, the shadows of the fighters seems like PSX shadows in tekken3.. but in 480i, they are great again..
