perhaps the game you are plays only supports 480 and 4:3, such as halo1.

I forgot to mention that I have a PAL modded xbox bought at launch and never had my dashboard update (via LIVE or game)
Is it nesesary to update it in order to display 480p?
How can I update it without overwriting my evox dash (e.g can i copy it from an xbox game?)

in the newest t3ch release of xbmc, you can now adjust the resolution from within xbmc in Settings -> System -> Video Hardware. There, you can choose between standard, letterbox and widescreen, and also select 480p, 720p, and 1080i. I'm guessing that's what's giving you problems, cause I think you actually HAVE to enable it there, even if you have it enabled in the xboxdash already

Well,I used the Enigma video selector and selected ntsc so I had the 480p,720p and 1080i selections available.
I selected yes and set the ratio to wide.
I went to the xbmc and selected 720p.
Now here is what happens.
The msdashboard is always in 576i,4:3 ratio and so does the evox dash!
But when I run xbmc the xbmc is on 720p
I cannot find out why the msdoshboard stays 576i (480i) and 4:3
I remind u that my xbox is pal-modded-bought at launch-never updated via game or Live
