Title: Component Problem
Post by: DaSingh on January 08, 2007, 09:47:00 AM
I bought a Xbox HD AV Pack Which has 6 output jacks:
Component Video Y output
Component Video Pr output
Component Video Pb output
Audio-L
Audio-R
Digital Audio
and also bought a RGB Component Video OFC cable
I have enabled HD and digital audio settings in MS Dash and box is set to NTSC, so I know all that is fine.
The problem I am having is when I turn the XBOX on the flubber screen flickers and then when it boots to my Dash XBMC-SVN_2007-01-01_rev7469-T3CH the picture is very dark screen output is more than 480 or higher.
The obvious answer is to adjust the TV settings but I dont think the problem is that, as when im running as normal NTSC 16:9 on the which is viewed on YCbCr channel it looks fine, altough the Yellow in the RSS feed is abit duller XBMC, Games, Movies all look the right sort of colour...
When ever I output higher resolution I have to switch to YPbPr channel as YCbCr goes out of range... I hope im making sense and not confusing you. Do you think the problem is with the TV, Cables or the HD pack itself?
Also having probelm with digital audio, when I put a game on I just get a load of noise through my amp tried everything to fix this but dont know whats causing it... MS Dash settings are set to Stereo, Dolby enabled, DTS enabled.
I hope someone can help, as I would like to run XBMC at 720p... Oh TV is a Firstline 42" Plasma, it also has a VGA connector on the back would I get a better picture using that instead of Component cables?

Bought a new set of high quality component cables cost £60!! Still same problem, so I know its the cable that is the problem, thinking its the HD pack itself as it is a third party. Can anyone else help shed some light on this?
Colour wise it looks fine but its just way too dark...

I have tried it with the two xbox's I have which have both been softmodded in the same way and its the same thing. The only other thing it could be is a faulty hd pack. I emailed the person I bought from and he said I could send back for a refund but that would mean sending it back to Florida which would probably cost more than its worth.
Looked everywhere for the official HD Pack but very hard to get in UK for some reason. The other cables I order should come 2mw so will let you know if they make any difference.

This cable I bought was a bag of shit! Still had the same problem with the picture being dark and to make it worse it had static lines from weak signal .
Guess my only alternative is to try on someone else's TV... Has no else had this problem? Could it be to with the Softmod, Bios, XBOX version?

Try a different dash and/or enabling the resolution you want in the MS dash.

Its not a dash problem as DVD's and games have the same problem also all resolutions have been enabled in MS Dash

Does the same thing happen if you boot into the ms dash THEN play a game? Or if you boot, say, evox or unleash x? Im just trying to say, spending 2 minutes to load a dash can't hurt

I bought two of these cables from the following website (one for each of my xboxes):
I can't recommend the cables or the company highly enough...
They work a treat and at only £7.90 per cable you can't go wrong.
NB- They have no digital audio, but that's not an issue for me.

So is there an option that will give me perfect component out and digital audio? Coincidentally i ordered the exact same component box and component cables as the first poster, anything above 480p the picture has a speckled pattern and in 1080I it gets even worse.
Ive just ordered the above cable but really need digital out. What are my options? Are there any other reliable component boxes?? Ive looked for the official microsoft one but cant find any for sale (apart from ebay.com where they sell for $60 or so!).

the component-out box that i gave a link to (in my post from Jan 16 2007, 07:18 AM) HAS a perfect component-out, there's nothing to complain about !! and it also has an optical audio output. the only problem I had was with my beamer. i really can recommend this one! misleadingly the seller is talking about an RGB-output.... well... it's NOT. i have - of course - enabled NTSC-mode on my xbox and i get COMPONENT out !!! at the close-up pictures you can even see the box itself sais "Y Pr Pb", and NOT rgb. and the cinch-connector are in the corresponding colours. but in the end... it's your extra-money your going to spend ... :-D
