X2vgas are supposed to be 70 dollars or so, but because the manufacturer is not selling any at the moment, there is a shortage and they are going for well over 100 on ebay and other places. However, the new x2vga will be out very soon, possibly by the end of this month so it is worth waiting for.

You don't need a special bios if you have an x2vga adapter, that's only if you want to mod the xbox yourself.

there are still a few other vga adapters you can purchase.  I don't remember the exact ones, but they may not be as good as the x2vga (according to their claims).

I actually just lucked out on an x2vga+ for $40 from the BST.  Try looking or posting about what you're looking for.
