Title: Getting A Hd Display On A Uk Modded Xbox?

You will need to use the Enigmah Video Switch disc to convert your Xbox to NTSC so as to get the Hi-Def options in the MS Dash.

Yup.  Plug your component cables into your monitor, turn on your xbox, load up enigmah, switch to NTSC, turn off, turn back on, go to MS Dash, enable Hi-Def options, reboot to enable changes, enjoy!

Will this make all games HD?, is 480i or 480p classed as HD?
First question: no. The game needs to support 480p.

480i and 480p are not HDTV. 480i is SDTV, 480p is EDTV. You can look it up in this Wikipedia-article.

Do I need to buy the MS Advanced HD Pack in order for the Xbox to output HD?  I have a modded UK box and have switched my box to NTSC and enabled the HD resolutions using Enigmah, but only have a cheap compatible component cable (rather than an original MS one).

All the games I've played so far still look the same of mixture of jagged lines and poor resolution on my 32" Samsung LCD TV sad.gif

Maybe I've just not tried one that supports a HD resolution?  But knowing if I have the right cable or not will put my mind (and my wallet) at rest smile.gif

First be sure that your game really supports 480p and make sure that it is enabled in MS Dashboard (the options will only appear when your HD-pack is connected and when your Xbox is using NTSC). Load the game and compare it to S-Video. It should look better...

So does that mean I need the MS HD Pack - my cheapo component cable not good enough?
I never said that. Read my last post again and judge for yourself.

The majority, ie 99% of PAL games run fine in 480p, some even in HD modes like the NTSC versions. (eg. Enter the Matrix, Freedom Fighters, Soul Calibur 2, etc)

I've only really noticed the PAL EA games only run in 576i@50Hz in which case you will get a black screen when you try to run them.

Others run fine in NTSC mode, but lack progressive support. In this case you will find the same happens with the NTSC versions. One example is Colin McRae 3. There usually is a hex edit that can be done to enable 480p.
