The xdk should explain this - its all about using a 10x11 pixel aspect ratio

10x11 Pixel Aspect Ratio

This is a video mode attribute that may be specified in all video modes that are 640 pixels wide. Enabling the 10 × 11 pixel aspect ratio will increase the black space on the left and right sides of the screen ..... the aspect ratio is not 4:3 but is instead 4:3.3

My guess is the game display is correct and you just need to manually change the display mode of your TV

It should be obvious if things look squished and are tall and skinny.

Well on futher messing around, it seems like its only NTSC games.  I have a PAL xbox, modded and converted to NTSC using the switching software.  I then have a mix of PAL games and NTSC. The PAL Halo2 seems fine, nice and crisp visuals and fills all the screen, where as the latest Spliter cell has the black bars on the left and right.

Thanks for you your help.  think im givin up and just playing it how it looks until teh 360 comes out. half games arte ok and fills screen, half dont.  all do on normal tv, so it must be the HDTV and some games making full use of it.  Halo and DOA ultimate are full screen and look great so thats ok.

Guess it makes me want a 360 more and make full use of this TV!

Uh, if they look fine on your other HDTV, than the problem is with your HDTV.  Either it's not handling the signal correctly, it doesn't deal with PAL/NTSC correctly, or whatever, but if your games display fine on 1 HDTV and NOT on another, it's that HDTV's fault, not the XBOX.  blink.gif

i think he means if you run it on a normal tv (not HDTV), they fill up the whole screen.

Now there are a few games that don't support 16:9 but I didn't think Burnout was one of them.
