Title: Looking For On The Fly Patching For Vga
Post by: St0mPeR on July 27, 2005, 10:50:00 PM
I'm looking for something like nkpatcher10 for on the fly patching but for other bios besides M$ bios. Need to clear up green tint issuse with some games like Crimson skys and Splinter cell. And I really don't want to put a M$ bios back on my tsop.

Now I'm not sure but with what I read nkpatcher10 clears up green tint some games have. But I have not been able to check this. Can someone confirm?
I really like the idea of forcing progressive scan and the shadowing of C drive.
The whole Hex editing files for every green tint game sux. I don't mind backing up my games but when you have to open tha coding for it and make changes, well I think this is a little too far. We need and EZer solution.

So if there is a force progressive scan solution, great! What is it? If not maybe its possible to integreat nkpatcher code into a bios. Sounds like a project. But I'm no coder. Shoot I don't even know what the hell I'm talkin about. Maybe some pros can clue me in.
thanks

i talked with the person who made the nkpatcher vga patch and he opened his code up for others to use.  i'm not a programmer either and i've asked others who are to make one, but no one responded.  i posted a request on the audio-visual area and the bios area.

theres no solution as of now that i know of, which is kind of unfortunate, however, we'll see about the future.

dr oldschool supports this, but no one seems to want to do anything.

i didn't think there were hexedits to fix the green tint issue, but i'll look around.

Ive never even heard of hex editing to rid the game of the green tint problem. To me it sounds a lot easier than patching a BIOS on the fly and all that other jazz.

If this can be done, let it be known here.

Thanks.

dry.gif ) and don't wanna take the chance of putting org M$ bios back and fracking it up completely. So nkpatcher isn't an option yet.
thanks for your feed back

oh yeah here Nkpatcher10 and Hexes

yes

I must be wrong on Hex edit to fix green tint. But the hex dose fix Hidef mode for pal and ntsc. As dose nkpatcher, right?
the hex patches change game code so that 480p is possible. the nkpatcher10-vga code does things differently. it patches the kernel AvSetDisplayMode. kernel patching is way more easier as there's only one function to be patched as opposed to game patching where each game does things differently.

So why not make a bios that uses nkpatcher code. So you get the cool virtual stuff and Hidef fixes. It would also be cool to have it auto detect wether your using a TV, HDTV, or VGA. Well it might be hard to get a bios to tell if its a VGA or a HDTV but what about if its a TV or VGA.
sure, it's possible to tell if it's hdtv or vga if you use different mode for vga cable. i found it unneccessery, hence my nkpatcher vga code expects a hdtv mode 2+3 cable.

I've screwed with my Xbox so much that the network chip is fried (yey another thing to fix dry.gif ) and don't wanna take the chance of putting org M$ bios back and fracking it up completely. So nkpatcher isn't an option yet.
create a bfm ms original bios, load it with bios loader, then make it run fonts exploit (for example uxe or ueee) followed by nkpatcher. that should do it.

Great! Glad to see I can use PBL as an option.
Thanks dr_oldschool

I still think it would be cool to see this implemented into a non M$ bios. Would make for quicker loading. That would kick so much @$$.

thanks agin

One question for dr_oldschool,

Does your nkpatcher10 support 720p res?

Is this string "AvSetDisplayMode" in the default.xbe at all? I figure it would be worth going in and changing a few strings in the xbe itself to get rid of the green wash effect.

From what I understand about the nkpatcher thing is that you have to have a soft modded machine to use it...?

Im going to take a look through a couple of xbe's to see what I can see.

According to this post 720p works. My monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 191T) can not sync to 720p so I cannot verify that.

No, AvSetDisplayMode is kernel export. And no, you can't patch game xbe easily to display vga correctly (without green tint). That should be done in kernel, hence the nkpatcher vga code.
