So you don't know if your TV supports progressive scan or not? Then I'm pretty positive the problem is that your TV doesn't support progressive scan. TV's can have component inputs and not have progressive scan you know. Component is still the way to go even if your TV doesn't have progressive. Looks like you'll have to do with an improved 480i picture.

Same problem... I've set the 480p and now is everything messed up in the screen.
Any ideas about how to come back to 480i since I can't see the menu on the screen?

Unplug the HD cable and put in the standard A/V cable that came with your Xbox. The Xbox detects what cable is inserted so it should revert back to a 480i picture. You can then disable HD support and plug in your HD cables again.
