Title: Widescreen Setting
Post by: ToHell on December 28, 2004, 04:44:00 AM
Ok, sounds simple enough, but I can't figure this out.
Games on my HD will boot without a problem if the video setting in the MSDash is set to normal, but as soon as I switch it to WideScreen none of the games will boot from the HardDrive.

Yes, I have the HDef AV Pack hooked up and I do have a HD Widescreen TV.

Tsop is flashed with Xecutor (the pre-m7 bios, not sure which version as it was done 2 years ago) but I dismissed it as a bios problem because the games boot fine in Normal.

Can it be the HD Pack? (it's not the M$ one, it Intec one I received as an Xmas present).

Games from Discs work fine with the setting on widescreen...just I want my HD games to play.

Thanks in advance for any help

I have exactly the same problem!

The Xbox has been modded for about 3 weeks, I assume with latest BIOS at the time, so it probably isn't a BIOS issue.

I am not using any High Definition connections at the moment so it can't be that.
Change from Widescreen to Normal or Letterbox fixes the problem instantly.

I tried clearing the cache which let me run Outrun 2 from the HD in widescreen mode ONCE and once only.
Any further clearing of cache (no cache to clear) has been fruitless.

XBox is PAL, games on HD happen to be imports (NTSC), so I am going to try switching the video with configmagic disc.
Will post if that works or not...

I read that DVD2XBox uses ACL files based on the region of the XBox, so I will try re-processing them if the video mode switch doesn't work immediately.

ToHell....

Try using the original AV cable and see if you're able to choose widescreen with no problem...if that's the case, that might be your problem. OR you can try disabling 480p, 720p and 1080i and see if that helps

So the games don't load at all (you get no sound as well as no video)?

On my system it doesn't get past the dashboard (slayers evox) loading screen.

I have tried switching from PAL to NTSC - no change :(

Switch to letterbox or normal - games work perfectly.
Also I have Metal Slug 3 and Kung Fu Chaos both PAL 4:3 games which work perfecty when the system is set to widescreen.

I don't see why you wouldn't update the bios just to be completely sure it's not the bios causing problems.  And the fact that it works with the MS bios, but not the tsop bios should be an indicator that it's probably something to do with the bios..... upgrade to the latest X2 bios (or 4981, that bios will work just fine) and see if you still have problems.

I seem to have fixed the problem by changing some Evox System settings. :D

I have the game region set to Default and IGR turned off which I assume are the key settings.

This happened to me when I tried to play Halo 2.  I only wanted to enable 720p, but in order for Halo 2 to run, I had to also enable 1080i.  At least my TV supports all the modes ;)

Well, I checked a few things and reflashed my tsop with the X2 4981 bios. Cleared out my cache on E drive and messed around with the region settings in Evox (tried Auto and Default) and even hooked it up to my "normal" tv with the standard AV pack and it still sits on the loading screen.

Tried a few BFM bios with PBL (Both normal bios and "debug" bios) to no avail.

Played Madden 05 setup on Letterbox in 480P and it works that way. I don't have a game that supports 1080i other than XBMC and that looks sweet.

Thanks for the suggestions...I'll keep pecking away. It's more of a "gotta get it to work issue" now instead of a needed issue.
