how would i go about adding a headphone jack to my xbox i would like some help i found a few pics but not many showing where wires go but i tried and only 1 side of the audio worked and it would lock up

Hey thats a great idea, im doing the dvd player with the xbox inside mod, i wonder if i can add a headphone jack as well ,....i will let ya know if i find anything out with it well trying it out .....

Would this work??
See the red and white composite audio jacks on the right, the 2 black boxes i added are switches that when switched to the right they would cut the power from the compisite audio and send it to the headphones.....would that work?

Don't forget there's a stereo headphone jack. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but just wire it up using the the same setup as the white and red audio connectors; you might be able to use both and IIRC if you plug in the headphones the white and red connectors should "cut out" while headphones are plugged in...though I may be wrong and instead the headphone connector needs to "sit in the middle" (in between the pins on the AVIP and red and white connectors. This is just an educated guess for "cut out" function like on stereo receivers.

So just solder the red and white of the earphoner jack to the red and white on the mobo? that would work? i hope so casue that would rock

i thought i've read about this somewhere.  where they actually had to have a "mini-amp" circuit to power the sound.  something about the red and white are just the signals, but dont provide power for the actual sound.  i'll see if i can find where i read it before.

one thought while i search, are the negatives on the lefts and rights are regular grounds (as with the whole box)?  if so, "theoretically", couldnt you bridge the positives to give you a mono signal (who wants mono, but i'm reducing it to one wire for a reason).  then connect that bridged positive to a cut yellow controller wire.  send signal up to conroller.  wire in connector with common negative and yellow connection for signal.  (this all assumes no amp circuit, or amp circuit is in xbox and common ground is possible.)

to be honest i have no idea what will and wont.  i know when you bridge the left and rights together you get a mono signal.  but you still need the positive and the negative as far as getting it to work.  so if he's done it, i guess it will work without the headphone amp.  probably best with cheaper headsets that would require less power.  for more power i'd search for "headphone amps" or something like that.  there are some sites dedicated to diy making of those circuits.  i dont know enough about electronics to feed you more info though.  hope something i said helped.

yellow will be whatever you splice into it.  you have to splice into it at the port.  if you dont know what i mean, then check out the power switch in controller mod.  you can see pics there how they wired power into it.  could do the same, but send the audio signal lead there instead.  yellow is supposedly for light guns or something.  so it doesnt have any power as far as i know.

Ok now would this work with a controller that is already using the power button mod on it? so the yellow wire would work with both?
The reason i aks if yellow is +5 is i just wanted to make sure im soldring into the right spot lol

The problem adding a headphone jack strait to the line out on the av connector is level. You are not gonna get much volume outta it if any.

Thats why I canabalized a cheap set of computer speakers for mine. I also had the luxury of additional room inside the case because of my mod.

The sound quality isn't great because I did use cheap ones but if you use better ones you will, of course, get better results.

I guess you could add a headphone amp or use some comptuer speakers with a headphone jack as an amp if you don't get the volume you like.

no, you couldnt effectively use both as far as i know.  the yellow wire would have to be dedicated.  but if you are going all out with the dvd option, get the dvd dongle, hardwire it inside, and also get the xir from greengiant.  then you wouldnt have to worry about the power button on the controller anyway.

Ok i gutted an old set of pc speakers, i kept the board with the earphones jack, and its got power on and off and volume, but theres lots of wires and a box at the end of 2 of them, i do belive the box is what the power wires hook up to, do i need this box anymore or will i be just wiring right into the black and red wires of the xbox?
