Title: New Xbox Hd Pack From Ms
Post by: davidjata on November 07, 2004, 01:34:00 PM
huh.gif

EDIT - I called MS last night and spoke to someone for about a half hour. They had me set the dash to progressive scan before i played a game, they had me verify that the connections to the tv were solid, etc. They tried all the stuff in their little book of tech support, they told me to do all the stuff I tried on my own. Nothing works. Then after pressing the tech rep about a "real" answer to my issue i got an answer. The tech said that MS knows about the issues of the HD pack with Rear Projection TV (RPTV's) and that they are "actively looking for a solution to the problem". The tech did say they would replace my HD pack with a new one once I tried it out on another hdtv. Once I get access to another hdtv i will try it. But i will just tell them to send me a new pack anyway.

Just to troubleshoot, did you consider purchasing another MSFT HD pack at a local store and swapping it in your Xbox (maybe a bad set of cables)?

Also, a display is a display.  If it looks like crap on an HD RPTV it will look like crap on any HD display, rear projection or not.  It's the signal being sent not the method of display.

I own the Monster set and they have always done me right but the new MSFT pack looked to be of better quality than the old MSFT breakout box combo and ultra cheap cables.  I'm surprised people are having issues as they looked solid.

I also just picked up the new HD pack after having to intentionally search for it cause most the stores around here still have the old one. I find it to be much better than the first pack they had with the breakout box. That thing used to give me all kinds of trouble with one of the plugs coming a little loose and my picture turning crappy. This new pack is working great for me and I have a 51" rear projection tv. I'd say its just a bad set.

I went out and bought another new ms hd pack and the picture looks AMAZING. The problems I was having went away. The PQ is great. I picked it up this morning at 12:01am when i got my copy of HALO 2 CE.

With the HD Pack working and HALO 2 in widescreen, I am in heaven.

Glad you got it working.

BTW they gave you the button combo to turn your dash into progressive.  Does the same button combo. disable progressive and turn it back as well?

Yes it does turn it back to 480i. When you do the button combo (press both triggers and thumbsticks while in MS Dash)

Once I enabled progressive it boots to 480p in MS Dash everytime. Good stuff

The NEW HD pack is like the Monster HD pack. There is no breakout box, instead the wires come right out of the video adapter. The cable is about 8ft long and has an Optical Audio port on it. The cables are a good quality. For $20 bucks, you can't beat it.

I have pictures but I don't have a way to upload them. I could send them to you if you like.
