First of all, how will you be recieving your HD content, Through the video cards
TV tuner? If so then it must have an ATSC tuner and have the ability to record HD signals.
If not, then the only way to record and playback true HD signals from television
is with a firewire enabled cable, sat, or standalone ATSC tuner box. Then you have to run the firewire output to your pc, download the recording software, run the software,
store it in HD(so forget putting it on DVD), and playback with a media player that supports HD like VLC. Or
you can also use VirtualDVHS to play back directly to the TV. But you must have an HDTV with a firewire input...pretty rare.
Even then some providers encrypt HD signals,
so if its encrypted you cant play it back at all, on tv or xbox. The only HD signals
not encrypted are the broadcasts stations, like CBS, NBC, etc..
