Title: Voltage On Audio Cables

I know in car stereos the line signal is about 6 or so volts it is only used to provide an UNAMPLIFIED signal the tv/reviever/amp will then boost the signal much more! What kind of project to you need this info for? I am sure that most connections will be able to handle the the power, just be sure to buy quality parts.

im hooking this up to my car's head unit.  it says the max it can handle is 1volt.

Are you putting an Xbox in a car? You could try a wireless transmitter, the kind that sends audio through your FM radio. I dont know what kind of sound quality you would get but it shouldnt be too poor.

Dude audio connections (i.e. left/right white/red RCA connectors) are standard voltages.  The XBOX obeys it, and your receiver will accept it assuming it came with RCA female connectors for the input.

DO NOT USE A FM TRANSMITTER!

Sound quality is terrible, i.e. feedback and fragments and whatnot.  If you have RCA connectors in the back of your deck, that will work.

Nothing is worth compromising on an FM transmitter  biggrin.gif Even if his car blew up killing thousands because the direct connection went wrong, it was a better idea than using a wireless hookup.  rolleyes.gif

Seriously tho' have you ever tried to measure the voltage across RCA connectors?  Because it isn't a DC signal, the readings are pretty unusable.  My multi-meter doesn't have a "peak" or "average" function, so it's like, just stare at the display for a while.  unsure.gif

Yeah mine has a "hold peak data" button. But I have never tried to measure RCA voltage because I never really needed to do so, I usually just hook up the output to the input and it works. Soon I will have an xbox in my car also, all I need to get now is a different power inverter, and glass a box for some speakers.
