Title: X2vga+ And Monitors Used
Post by: akarnid on June 26, 2004, 08:38:00 AM
I have a Mitsubishi DiamondTron 21".  It's quite old (5 yrs+) but the image quality is good.

It should not matter what model you take, as long as it isn't something unlabeled and the cheapest thing you can find smile.gif

I've tried a 10 year old nokia and it works great.  Have yet to try my lcd monitor, don't really know if I care to try because I always feel like it's a waste to use it on a vga connector instead of dvi because it will always look worse than a normal vga monitor because instead of the signal staying digital like it would with dvi it has to go through dac and then analog back to digital conversion resulting in double the singnal loss from conversion than a normal vga monitor.  God all digital dvi looks nice on a lcd, I wish the xbox had dvi capability.

No I don't think the signal is being lost....

Vga to Vga is anolog. Don't know wha LCD monitor you have, but I have a dual -Dvi-D & Vga15-Dsud. If you were to plug the x2vga adapter to the LCD monitor, you wouldn't lost anything nore would you gain any visual improvement.

I don't belive it goes over a digital to anolog conversion when using a Vga 15pin dsud cable to the LCD monitor.(or does it really?)..  In any case, if it does  it would be in the LCD monitor, not on the x2vga adapter.

The signal  is never, never digital on the x2vga, but anolog.(you can quote me on this one)  unsure.gif  disregard the chips inside, they all work in anolog form.

Is a 17" monitor too small to play split screen games on?

LCD's are by their nature digital displays.
PCS (and XBOX's) are also digital systems.

When you use an LCD with a PC(or XBOX) via a VGA analogue connector you are converting from digital (inside the PC/XBOX) to analogue then back to digital again (in the LCD).

Very Pointless methinks.

The picture is usually Ok. Most LCDs appear to be installed on PCs via VGA leads.  IMO Its just frustratingly pointless. Using digital connectors should be (but isnt yet) cheaper than analogue ones as you cna do away with the DAC in the video card and the ADC in the LCD.

For Xboxes though, I doubt it matters too much. it will at least be a better image than from most tvs.

this is off-topic, but the xbox2 or the next generation xbox, whatever you want to call it, better have a DVI output
