While it's never "true" black with a rear projector bulb LCD's, it should be dark enough that you cannot tell the difference.
Play with the controls and increase the contrast ratio, then adjust the brightness so that compared to a brighter object, blacks do indeed look black.
I hate bringing up old posts but since I have the same issue, no difference than creating a new topic.
So I have the Sony KDF-55XS955. Love it. Only issue is what is described here. Madden actually looks worse running in 480p on my HD TV than in 480i otherwise. Short of only getting games that are 720p or 1080i, is there something I can do to help alleviate this particular issue. I'm hoping running through the Avia disc might help but seems like its just a function of the technology and the game maker.
i have this exact same problem. anyone know a fix other than just getting used to it?? in the splinter cell 3 demo i upped the contrast and brightness in the game and it looked AMAZING. no blocks or anything. please post lil things like that if u know them.
