Title: Please Help Pal Gamer With X2vga
Post by: spillage on May 13, 2004, 02:21:00 PM
You don't say if your box is modded. If not you can't have it work anyways. You must be able to run software, called Enigmah Videomode Switchdisc to change the video mode from PAL to NTSC. Once done, and with the X2VGA plugged in you will have three additional tick boxes in the 'video settings' of the M$ dash. 480p, 720p and 1080i. You need to enable them and then you will get your progressive images on the display.

If you turn your Xbox into an NTSC machine it WILL play back your PAL games if the mod chip is enabled.

Actually there are a few PAL games that will not run at all (tv, vga etc) when your modded PAL box is in NTSC mode. Then there are even more PAL games that won't run in VGA mode. Very sad sad.gif

Hmm. I've seen less than 6 for which this was true.

In essence yes.

You must switch your box to NTSC before the settings will become available.

Yes you can switch it back.

However (maybe someone else can answer this) I do not know how XBLive will react to your video mode change. It may see this as a change in hardware, if you connect while in NTSC mode.

However MS designed the machine to be switchable to PAL-NTSC and vice versa, so it is conceivable that the security checks disregard the video output mode settings, but I can't say this for certain.

It is unlikely that your machine will retain the settings when it is set back to PAL, though.

I really appreciate everyone's assistance on this, especially opjose.

Now forgive my ignorance (again) but that last comment got me a little confused.

"It is unlikely that your machine will retain the settings when it is set back to PAL, though."

Are you saying that when I enable the video modes in chip mode then switch back to non-chip it will not keep the settings?

I'm guessing MS will not care about eh video settings...but I will find out tomorrow when I go on LIVE.
