This ppf patch just transforms your PAL default.xbe (Title ID: 0x54540086) into the NTSC default.xbe (Title ID: 0x54540082) (hence the size of the patch), so you need to have your console set to region 1 to run the resulting xbe, and you will loose you PAL version savegames.

Of course, tried lots of things but nothing seems to make it autodetect :angry: , the function in the xbe is stripped down just to set only one possible video mode and no value seems to make it auto... i finally give up, i will make a multi xbe disc using CDXmenu (one xbe for 480i and other for 480p) and problem resolved.

GTA SA is a bitch, it doesn't use the generic function SetVideoMode, only uses XGetVideoStandard and then have its own function to to set the video mode
I tried to rewrite the function to autodetect, but for my limited knowledge of dissasembled code i think i would never have enough space to make the pertinent modifications.

The code is clear, i have commented it for better undestandability but as i said i am no expert and maybe i am missing some way of modifying it and still have the same size
Maybe some expert could guess how to mod the PAL xbe to autodetect the same way the NTSC xbe does.

The XGetVideoStandard function returns the video standard set by the manufacturer.

btw SetVideoMode is not really propper function, on some xbe it is contained with the direct3d createdevice function when stuff is broken down.
i would recommend just removing this line in GTA SA (pal) or eax, 20h ('adds' / ORs 20h to whatever eax was ie 0)
It is not needed from what i can see. Since 0h would give autoselection between interlaced and progressive and in the previous lines of code you will see xor eax, eax which is the same as saying mov eax, 0h

Those all work in 480p using this. Worms 3d still wont boot unedited.
Edit on my last post, kung fu chaos has some bugs in certain modes, for example the log jumping and pole balancing. These are not playable. Baldurs gate also wont work properly in 4:3, bottom of the screen is fucked.
ESPN NFL 2k5 PAL -> use setvideomode fix to get 480p. Dunno about the NTSC version. Enjoy.

We can add Ultimate Spider-man to the list. I am surprised that they didn't include 480p when they are boasting the graphics and animation.

Exactly, I'm quite surprised that producers like Activision and Treyarch didn't include at least 480p/i in Ultimate Spider-man. If someone can find a hex solution asap it would be extremely appreciated.
I find it very strange that companies are releasing XBOX games without HDTV support because it has become more common now as HDTV's are not that expensive any more.

Sorry guys no 480p patch from me, I tried without any luck for the best part of last 2hrs. Prahaps someone wants to run the xbe through cxbe emu and see if that disasembles more of the code for IDA.
I think the reason for lack of 480p support could be either because its a PS2 port or 360 related. If anyone else takes time to look at the asm code they will see a strange new code branching system that appears to be checking... 480i 4:3 (pal/ntsc) / 480p 16:9 (pal/ntsc) / 720p and 1080i, could this be for 360 compability?
Lastly what happened to the old days where release groups released video patches like RGB fixes for DC, common rls groups, if you are reading this here the challenge .. 480p this spiderman game

I was looking forward to playing this game but I hate to connect through SCART again just for one game because I've seen how awesome games play on my plasma. Thanks for the help though. I hope someone figures this on out.
But it makes me think, if it has something to do with 360 compatibiliy then why would you think games such as Halo 2 (topseller) and Ninja Gaiden (topseller) are in HDTV but this not how ever.

Is Heroes of the Pacific really only 480i ? That sure is a bummer if it's true as I am sure many including me were looking forward to playing it in 480p widescreen.
It gets released here in NZ on Friday so I am gonna check it out then.

i currently have a modchip with only one bank. so i set up phenix bios loader and a vga bios. so when the xbox has booted up, you can just run this program, and it patches the bios in RAM with the vga bios.
so what would you have to do BIOS wise for it to work this way?

R U playing the Pal version ? because just maybe the ntsc version which is 'sposed to release today may be 480P enabled ? If so us Pal version owners might have a chance of getting a patch made up using ppf or something.

To be honest with spiderman it looks like a programming error from looking at the code, simply because the code has branches for every mode possible on the xbox.
NTSC version, maybe this will be corrected in the PAL release but i wouldnt bet on it.

This won't work.
No BIOS has the 'force 480p'-function built-in. Only the NKPatcher10+VGA has it.

Game didn't display a DDR so its hard to know for sure from just the xbe. It *should* work, well at least the dolby receiver is getting a signal which kind of indicates the game hasn't crashed.

Hey Raydn, I was expecting to pickup my pal version of Heroes of the Pacific today but got told release here in NZ is delayed another week !.

OMG thank you! I didnt think anyone would figure it out but you did so thanks :) I have the game running in 480p right now the game looks so much better I cant believe it :) great job!!
now guys dont get me wrong, but why wouldnt it be easier to isnert the code described above into your bios to force 480p?
i have an alladin chip in my box, with a standard bios in it. with unleashx, i hold down a when it laods up, and it launches pbl which patches the bios with a vga one.
if we could write the force 480p code into the vga bios (i use junkmonkeys ind vga bios), this would make this a lot easier, and we wouldnt have to fuss over hex editing xbe's.
if someone could please help me stick this code into a bios, give it a go and see how it works, coudl you please reply or pm me?

ok a little theory i have...
im pretty confident on where to look to patch for 480p/i , i think it might be possible to patch to 720p. The only problem (aside 64mb) is that i wouldnt have enough bytes available and inserting more will cause problems as it moves things in the xbe. But im thinking that it might be possible to nop the lot and then maybe there is enough space to insert a jmp/sub routine (like the old group intros did?) to the end of the xbe where new code could be executed before returning.
Only thing is im not 100% sure on how to do this at the moment, so dont expect anything too soon.
I can up the Heroes of the pacific 480i(xbe file). If someone tells me how and were to post or send it?

ok ive been trying this all wrong.
if i open it up in a hex editor, there is no AvSetDisplayMode in the code.
do i need an uncompiled bios or another program to open it with?

Thanks anyway raydn, I haven't found anyone confirming the ntsc version is in 720p and it does sound pretty doubtful but you never know I guess. If it does turn out to work in 720p then maybe us pal version owners can get the default as try see if it works.

Make sure 720p and widescreen are enabled in the dash oh if you can copy your save game to memory stick cos you wont be able to read the text when starting a game.
I also took a look at cold fear, unfortantly it doesn't have any 720p code only reference to 720 is where it checks 480p is enabled and sets the screen to 720x480 (true 480p) instead of 640x480. So that must have been where the 720 on the box came from.

I been bit busy of late, having a bit of trouble with the pc also.
I had a 160gb hd crash on me in a pretty bad way around xmas time. Luckily i didnt lose too much. However I think i have lost all the 480p xbe hacking details I had written myself (at least ive not found them on any backup as yet.) This isn't to much of a problem tho annoying. I also lost IDA Pro (which is easy enough to get hold of) but the xbox flirt file is not and I could really do with it.
If anyone can send me the xbox flirt file for IDA pro I would really be greatful. cheers

Very likely that there is a better place to patch it - don't have the game either.

The game for some reason leaves a 1/2" black border on the bottom of my TV; like the picture is a little to small height wise.
I wonder if the 10x11 pixel ratio that you mention is causing it.
I'll try putting 90s like you said to see if it makes a diff.

I tried it today, and it works in 480p, but only under certain conditions.
If your using IGR, and played the game 1st time from your dash, it works. But after using IGR (soft reset, not hard) and trying the game a 2nd time, it will hang after the copyright screen. It must be missing some screen resetting code that is needed before going into 480p mode.
The 10x11 ratio code I also tried 90'd , but the game hung even before the copyright screen.
Also, for the black border on the bottom of my TV, it went away after going into 480p mode.
So, for the most part it works.

After playing around some more, it seems to hang randomly on any movie that's played within the game. So, I'm forced to revert back to 480i mode
The patch isn't reliable.
IGR on or off doesn't matter.

and this works for me (480p). I can do an in game reset, and it still works, no hang up etc.

i have legal copies of half life 2, cold fear and project snowblind... unfortunately they all turn out green probably because they are set to interlace as they are pal games...
anyway to change this to 480p instead or me having to grab the ntsc versions of the game? [and yes my other games do work with the vga hack apart from these 3]...

In most cases the edit will enable progressive scan for games which normally don't support it.

This one works for me! Thks! Using the one in the above post works but presents overscan and cut the game HUD.
I have the same problem with Winning Eleven 9. In 480i works right but in 480P I have overscan problem and the image looks a litle zoomed.
Maybe there“s a way to fix this in WE9 like in Winback 2? I play in 16:9. Sorry my bad English.

Call of Duty 3?
Has V8 Supercars (PAL) been patched yet?
Is there a single big list somewhere of what has been patched?
Does MAME work?
So does patching these games stop the ones that switch to green from coming up green, or does it just allow games that don't come up in VGA at all to work in VGA?
I understand that soul caibiler 2 is 1080i for pal but only 720p for ntsc version of the game. Is there a hex edit to get 1080i?

Does anyone know a hack to put Red Faction II in 480p?
The string in the standard "setvideomode" fix wasn't found in the .xbe.
Sorry about my last post, RFII does indeed do 480P. For some reason my XBox had it turned off.
I just stumbled upon this topic last night and now have several of my games working on my VGA monitor that didn't before. Thanks for all the great info.
I took a stab at Dakar 2 and didn't find any of the usual patterns. However, I DID find the same pattern that's in Scooby Doo and Winback 2:

This gave 480p in the opening videos, but once the videos finish it switches back to 480i... so that was a no-go.

Yea. Will this method fix the problem with Enter The Matrix?
I still cannot get that game to work on anything but a television and when it does work (on my S.O.G. monitor), the screen is green. It is sad because that game is supposed to do 1080i.
