Sure there is build what you saw in an external box. It can be driven by a couple of AA cells if you like. Simply have 2 phono/RCA to get audio from AVIP via stock lead and have headphone socket the other side. Job done. Literally follow the diagram but externally mount in box of your choice.

This is easy.
Buy a splitter that goes from two female composite ( RCA jacks) to a female stereo 1/8" mini jack or a 1/4" jack depending on your headphone cable. Heck one comes with the VD-Z3 and X2vga for computer speakers, but there's no reason why you can't plug in headphones instead. Just control the volume in game. Depending on your headphones, they may already have a volume control on them.
2 bucks at radio shack man....that's all you need. Volume level will depend a lot on the headphones used though.

Simply buid what I have posted into a small metal box with a couple of phono/RCA connectors to take the audio from a stock M$ AVIP cable and run it from 3 x 1.5v AA cells. Job done.
